Metal of course.
Read some where that someone did that and ran the car and didnt notice any appreciable gains. So I guess it's true, cooler outside air travels too fast to be heated by the metal intake pipe and too fast to be cooled by the colder pipe.

your intake would pick up moisture, then send it into the motor.

it would only b effective for a couple min, our under hoods get REAL hott!!!

Well duh, by the time your engine heats up, the pipe will be back to being extremely hot again. What people do to try and get a few extra HP. What, do they think that the intake will be ice cold from that point after. What idiots.

some company makes a cryo intake with dry ice box for race days, but again the condensation comes to mind.

well...i was gonna post the dyno but i thought i just tell u.. we were gonna do the same thing down at dynotune but didnt have time so we did it at the shop anywayz but the dyno was in use the whole day...but when we pulled it from the freezer we insulted it in pipe insulation to keep it cool so we can run tests... air temp into intake was at the throllte body was 54degrees and exterior temp was at 98degrees.. it only took 15 minutes before intake came back up to room temp.. one of these days when we are bored again we will try to get a dyno to see the results.. as for moisture.. its like it doesnt exist here in the desert.. u put a cold glass of water out on the table and it will not condense

an old trick racers used to use back in the day was to inject a small amount of water into the cylinder to increase compression, it only takes a small small amount in a cylinder to increase compression.

Anyone that tried this and got noticable performance increases is most likely experiencing an effect similar to wat was described above. The moisture released is at a slow enough pace to not harm anything, but fast enough to raise compression for a minute or two.
