I've never gotten a ticket for any of those violations. I'm pretty sure read somewhere that the exhaust has to less than 98db's or something like that. I don't know how loud that is, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

The blue license plates are illegal, I think the smoked ones are illegal too (not too sure on this one). I use to have light blue covers on my plates, and I never got a ticket for them. I ended changing my blue ones to clear ones. They don't look as good, but at least I won't get a ticket for something that stupid.

GL with your court date.

Just so you know, you can get a ticket on even the clear ones, but those I've heard are easily beat. As for the exhaust - what EXACTLY does it say on the ticket?

Stores can sell whatever they want as prescribed by law, it's up to you to read the fine print man - "Off-road use only, please consult your local highway laws regarding legal use of this product on public roads". Laws determining what you can sell and what you can possess do not necessarily overlap all the time.

As for: "If they sell the product at Canadian Tire it shouldn't be illegal". I don't like the fact that blue covers are illegal, I think they're rather cool. The law is the law though. Stores out there sell knives, swords, and pipes on open racks. It's up to people to think "Maybe I shouldn't keep this in a scabbard tucked in my jacket". Just cause it's legal on a shelf doesn't mean it's legal to have or use.

Actually, you're right.. but! Think of it this way too -- if they know the majority of people will still WANT to buy it WITHOUT reading the fine print or knowing the law, why would they still sell it? Because they're $$$ hungry? It must be. Specialty stores like House of Knives, etc. sell these things because most of their product range is under the same category. When CT does it and expects the "average" consumer to walk in and research everything, it becomes a little stupid (to me at least). Besides, CT has a closed rack section for those products that are affected by the law and requires an employee to open it up for you. Those blue tinted plate covers were out in the open.. *shrugs* But yes, it's up to the consumer to do the research first

THAT is for the money, I agree. And of course you make sales the best way you can within the law. They're not legally required to keep "illegal" items locked up, so why put the good sellers there?

As far as I was told (my baby bro works at Craptastic Tire) the closed rack is not cause it's illegal, it's cause it houses high theft items. These are desirable items expensive enough not to be bought daily (like the blue covers) but still wanted by many of a certain demographic more prone to theft (16-25year-old males).

For the first one, I would argue that it was unsafe for you to stop on the amber light (ie. you were too close the intersection, there was a car tailgating you, etc.)

For the license plate ticket, tell them you have taken the cover off, and they will likely reduce or even throw out the ticket

Finally for the exhaust ticket, our laws are pretty vague in that it is up to the officer's discretion to determine if your exhaust is excessively loud. Not sure what you can do about this one based on the law

Hope some of this helped.

Amber/red, tell you had a tailgater and had to avoid an accident.
My girlfriend had a loud exhaust ticket. She took an old pic of the car when it had stock exhaust to court and told them she put it on after. I beleive they reduced it.
Are you guys sure that the clear covers are illigal?? I mean, the DMV sells them with a lifetime crack warranty!!

depends if the cop knows his stuff. how does he EXACTLY know the excessive noise did actually come from your exhaust?

the officer probably knows jack squat about mods. the excessive noise could of came from your cai? header?

the officer would have to PROVE the excessive noise came from your exhaust.

it all depends on how you present your case in court.

**learned this from a fellow member, officer

but w/three tickets, im not sure if the prosecutor will drop a ticket fory ou.. like the license plate cover.. b/c you're going to plead not guilty to the exhaust ticket., IF you're going to plead not guilty... and the amber light ticket... which you should, imo.

maybe the prosecutor will have a good day when you're in.

im pretty sure all your three tickets will be trialed on the same day, same time.. same court. hehe. i've gotten three tickets at the same time once.. it was all trialed on the same day

hmmm, it depends on how confident you present yourself.... you're going to questoin the officer if he knows what an AEM cai is, what a Injen SRI is.... what a DC Header is, what a HP high flow cat is, what a HP header is, what a HP full racing header is............ and so forth.

question him hard, if he doesnt know what those modifications are, THEN, how is it that he knows that, the excessive noise came from your DC sport exhaust?? and that the noise had actually came from your AEM cai? or DC sports header..... or whatever other mods you have.

or whatever exhaust it is you have.....

I would really like to know the answer to this too. They sell them at the Ministry of transportation. Why would they sell items that are illegal there?? It doesn't make sense to me.

Someone shed some light on this.

yes, they are all illegal... even the ones that are sold at the ministry of transportation.

as long as the officer thinks that it obstructs the view of the license plate, he/she can claim it to be illegal.

tell me how you tend to fight that fail to stop-amber light ticket...I would like to know. I got a fail to stop-red light just the other day and i'm gonna fight it. My excuse is that I couldnt come to a complete stop safely becasue there was a black integra driving erratically. When I got my ticket the officer asked me if I knew those poeple, I told him I didnt. When the officer asked me that, it showed me that the driver in the Integra was driving erratically. so therefore it was unsafe to stop.

Thats my defense...

I heard its real hard to fight a light ticket though. Its basically your word Vs. the Officer.

But good luck with all your tickets
