Turbos and Wastegates

ok i got a question for you guys. first off, i am lookin at a t3 super 60 turbo for my car. now i have searched around a bit and found this place as having a good deal for it:

http://www.turbostore.com/gart3sup.html

now, my question is: if a turbo comes setup for an internal wastegate, can it be converted to work with an external wastegate and if so how is this done? or where can i buy a t3 super 60 for a good price that is setup to work with an external wastegate?

All you have to do is weld the wastegate flapper closed so it wont open. And then set-up you're external gate. Also the exhaust flange next to the turbine and wastegate flapper isnt the best design on that turbo if you were going to use the internal gate. It seems to me that the exhaust comming through the wastegate would run right into that flange and then proceed to the downpipe. Personally I think this would disrupt exhaust flow enough to hurt performance, but I may be wrong.

ya, but if i was gonna use that turbo externally gated, would i be fine?

and i dont know if i would trust a weld on there, i would probally look for one that is meant to be externally gated.

you know any places that have a good price for one?

^yah you would be fine, but i agree with you. You can also use another T3 turbo if u cant find any super 60's that arent internally gated. Not sure where to get good prices, but check this place out. Good Luck!

The wastegate portion of the turbo can be removed and a five bolt flange welded directly to the downpipe if you really want to run external.

Like this

This will completely eliminate the internal wastegate flapper and allow you to run an external wastegate without having to weld the internal wastegate flapper.

Yeah! Thats it... Then the downpipe gets welded to the flange just like would have the three bolt flange.

The hole where the internal flapper covered will get covered up by the five bolt external flange.

Just about ANY Internal wastegated turbo can be converted to external and vise-versa

so i actually weld the downpipe to the turbo? how safe is that? isnt there the chance of exhaust leak?

BTW!!! The five bolt flange that I posted a picture of can also be used to bolt existing three bolt downpipes to if you already have a pipe setup for internal... You will just have to weld in a dump tube for the external wastegate when converting to external...

so no welding would be required for the downpipe?

No no no...

You weld the Downpipe to the five bolt flange then bolt the flange to the turbo...

If I can fine a picture I will... I am running internal wastegate so can't help much with a picture but will look around...
