Tokico Owners L00K

Seeing as there have been numerous questions about the performance of the Tokico HP (blues) that have recently come out please post a review in the Parts/Reviews section so that other members may know the pros/cons of these new struts.

Great review. BTW although Tokico Blues are stiffer than stock dampers would they be compatible with mild lowering spring rates like the Eibach Prolines, H&R or Tein S-Techs? Which would be perfect match in your opinion?

Any of those springs would be good I would think. The Tokico's will be much more compatible with those springs than stock. Stock will bounce a lot more than these will. I'm not sure about the spring rates on those springs but the stiffer they are, the more they will bounce. Also though, with a softer rate you'll have more body roll in the turns.

There is a group buy for Tein S-Techs, Tokico's, and SPC camber kits going on right now that I would highly reccomend buying if you're thinking about doing springs/struts.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the stock OEM springs are most likely going to be the softest spring you can get. The softer the spring the less bouncing you'll have. This being said, I think the stock spring would give the least amount of bounce when compared to any after market lowering spring that are stiffer.

bounce is controled by the Dampers them selves... All springs bounce. SO, if your car is bouncing, then your dampers arnt strong enough to control the springs you are using.

Stock springs are some of the softest springs you can get, but you could duplicate the spring rate with a set of ground controls. a word of caution though, if you lower the car, you will have to get stiffer springs to prevent the car from bottoming out... which could destroy your new Tokicos.

Cool, if i got the Tokicos I would probably get some Neuspeed Race, as opposed to the Neuspeed Sport that I have now. I think I read that the Tokicos recommended a 1 - 1.5" lowering, so let me know how they're holding up.

You're right, that's why the stock springs came on our cars, they ride comfortably. However, if you leave the stock spring on there, you're still gonna have that 4X4 look.

Clownprice,

How much are you dropped right now? Is it less than 1.5? Sorry, I don't know what the drop on Neuspeed Race springs are. Right now I have Eibach Sportlines and would like to get the Tokicos but I'm just afraid they'll blow the Tokicos. Is there still a bit of bounce or do the Tokicos eliminate it? Thanks in advance.

Bobbio, I'm dropped about 2.75 inches all around with the Neuspeed Race springs. The Eibach Sportlines should be fine, in fact I think that those are the springs that Tokico recomends. There isn't much bounce at all and there will be even less for you as your springs aren't as low as mine.

I think the 2003+ have larger bolts(16mm I think rather then 14mm) that hold the spindle on the strut. If this is true, then you have either drill the Tokico holes bigger or use 14mm bolts. Not sure how safe it would be to drill holes bigger, but it would only be 2mm overall.

Konis are the way to go if you plan on Racing (Autocross/open track ect) other wise adjustible shocks arnt really needed. and Tokico Bluse are a good street damper, If all you have to do is drill the hole a little bigger, its a small price to pay to get rid of the OEM crap shocks.

well, if you were to drill them slightly bigger then needed, you could get a little more camber control out of the suspension... (some times Autocrossers will slot the bolt holes to get more negitive camber).

Other wise just try to be as accurate as possible, and have a set of Files (a Full round or a Half Round will do) handy just in case you need to do a little adjustments on the holes you drilled.

I installed tokico blues on my 01ex with STOCK SPRINGS eventho I have Neuspeed Sport springs, cuz I work in NY Manhattan, and the road is SUPER BAD, so I just decided to stay with my stock springs for now, I'll prolly sell my Neuspeedsport springs and get eibachprolines later on.
oh by the way, the ride is very comfortable, much better than blownstockshocks lol
