How do I reset the ecu?
How do I reset the ecu? Someone said unpluging the battery or unpluging the ecu harness. If so where do I unplugh the harness at? or are there other ways of doing this.
You can reset using a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD connector, removing the ECM power fuse under the hood (no. 6) for at least a few seconds or by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for at least a few seconds.
disconnet neg battery terminal for like a minute or two.
reconnect
start car, idle for 15 minutes. DONT TOUCH THE GAS!!!!!!!!!!!
turn off car
turn on car, drive hard for a few minutes to get the ECU to relearn fuel curves, intake temps, air volume, etc...
then it should be adapted to the new things youve done (presuambly). this should also be done for every season so by the time the season is over, the car wont have to readjust to the new seasonal changes and stuff....

Good idea, I never thought of that!
Yes what he said. ^ THe ecu fuse and not the battery. Although its easier to pull the battery cable its a pain in the *** to be ressetting your radio stations agiain and again.
Also there was a topic with different ways to "train" the ecu after resetting. It said that the best way was to hold the rpm at around 3k for 5 mins or so and that yeilded the best results but the 10 minute idle and drive of also works.

That's right. You guys worry way too much about resetting the stupid computer. It will learn fuel curves as you drive. After a tank of gas, you should be set.
Here is the Honda ECM/PCM learn procedure.

• Make sure all electrical items are turned off.
• Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at
3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or Neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on.
• Let the engine idle for 5 minutes with the
throttle fully closed and with all electrical items
off.
NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on during this
step, the time it is operating must not be
included in the 5 minutes.

tacheon posted the procedure right from the service manual. Just do it that way, but it should learn on its own. It's very easy to do though. Just disconnect the battery first and reconnect it before performing the learn procedure.

I just started mine and let it idle for 15 minutes. It runs like a champ. Don't worry, the ECU learns as you drive. A few minutes on the freeway, and it will have adjusted itself.
I'm sure they don't baby every civic off the line to learn the idle. It'll do it regardless. The only thing that'll happen is that it may run rough when you first drive off before it had a chance to adjust.

The point is for the car to relearn idle rpms. You want to keep it at idle for 10 mins once the car is warm. Look in the manual for the fuse. It's called FI ECU.
