O2 Sensor - Diagrams

Hello,

My Check Engine Light is on. 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe (Auto).

I was told by a technician that my O2 Sensor is bad in bank 2. Now, I did search for info here, but so far, I am not able to identify where exactly is the O2 Sensor in bank 2. Is that the one before or after the Cat converter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ack

Is the o2 sensor the same thing as the oxygen sensor.

Very late answer to a very old thread.

To answer your question jttegx. If having the normal piping replaced with piping with a larger diameter is considered aftermarket then yes I did. It's not any particular brand. Only the tip is.

Anyhow, the Engine Light is still on and I haven't even attempted to fix this problem. Since my New Year resolution is to finish what I start, then maybe within the next couple of weeks.

your 2nd 02 sensor is reading uncorrect amount of air flow going thruout the piping. from what i know, its not harming your car seriously in any way, its just letting your ecu know your getting a bad sense of air flow on your 2nd o2 sensor. this will happen to almost everyone who has a hi flow cat, no resonator, and/or larger diameter piping before the cat converter.

Since I am planning on selling my car within the next 4 - 6 months, it would be a good idea to have the Engine Light off. Do you feel that replacing the sensor will make the Engine Light turn off? If not, what would be a different approach.

Thanks.

if you just put back on the original o2 sensor (the one on the cat), theirs a chance it will still come back on. if you attemp to put it back in, d/c your battery and then proceed. most likely what would happen is when u put it back it the slot, and turn on the car, it will be gone. BUT after few days or few weeks, it will come back on depending on your driving habits. cause mine would stay off unless i drive on the freeway for 5min then it'll go back on.

i suggest replacing it with all OEM piping before the cat because if u sell a car with the CEL on, thats a serious problem and illegal to. even if it isnt on at the time, it can come back on days later and their gonna come back at you for the trouble.

goodluck

OK. The first thing I will do is go to a local muffler shop and have them install the normal size piping (whatever that is). Do you think a typical muffler shop would have all parts necessary? Would you know what they might need in order to change the entire pipe and any other parts that go with it?

tell me exactly what piece is it that you have that has a larger diameter piping and tip?
throw back on your OEM header, OEM downpipe (ex models), and OEM cat. converter and you'll be set.
OEM = original equipment manufaucter* meaning its from the factory.

I'll have to get back with you on how much of the entire exhause system was changed. I have a feeling it was only from the rear of the car up to the cat, then nothing else was changed. I'll make sure later today. Anyhow, I don't have the piping and any other original parts that were removed. The muffler shop should have the piping to put back right?

I'll check and see what was done later today.

You can unplug the O2 sensor and measure the resistance on the it. A good O2 sensor should be between 10-20 Ohms. Typically readings are 13-15 Ohms.

Thumbs up O2 sensor

Bank two is after the cat, if the Resistance seems normal, swap the two O2 sensors, run the car and see if the code is the same. While the sensor is out cleaning it with a CLEAN wire brush dosent hurt. PS dont use any solvents just the wire brush.
