Turbo > Supercharger?!?!
Ok i hope the title got your attention! I didn't know where to put this, so MODS feel free to move it as you please. I just wanted to tell you all about my Electrical Engineering lab partner. On Tuesday in while working on one of our lab circuits, my lab partner (Abe), a friend of mine (Ryan) and me (Joe) started to talk about cars and what we had, here's the conversation (oh and my partner is a cocky person, just my luck to get stuck with him)
Abe: So what kind of cars do you guys have?
Me: A 7thgen civic, just mostly suspension mods.
Ryan: A 99 EK with a few suspension mods (in reality, his suspension is CRAZY, even has a roll cage, and its a show car).
Abe: Oh cool, I have a Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T, its different from everyone else's because I have blacked out euro tails. I'm planning on changing my SUSPENSIONS (yes with an S), and I want to get a bodykit and I have a wing. (proceeds to show us a picture of his stock looking Jetta.)
Ryan/Me: oh...cool...
ok here's where it gets interesting, and where the stupidity begins and ends.
Abe: So yeah Turbos OWN ALL superchargers!
Ryan: Oh yeah? Why's that?
Abe: Oh cause Turbos have no lag, and you have to wait for superchargers to spool up.
(This is where I'm like wtf you damn retard)
Me: Hey buddy you got it backwards.
Abe: No way, that's how it is!
And after that our side of the room proceeds to laugh at his smart *** cause he thinks that his turbo has no lag. I don't know about you guys, but if I had a turbo car I'd know every little bit of information about it. Oh well, he still has a better car than me, it was just fun seeing a cocky guy get burned!
I hope I didn't bore you guys too much! Later!

Sigh, well in the 1.8T they have an EXTREMELY small turbo that spools up way under 2000 RPM, its almost as if it has no lag, so maybe he just got confused or something.

Eh have a small enough turbo and there is little to no lag...but you suffer kuz it don't put out enough boost-a-roo...
Have a large turbo and it spools up slower but the gains in the high end are huge...
with super chargers...depending on the setup you get immediate feedback from the manifold, and the power kicks in in the lower RPM's....tell him to go buy a ford fiesta and shut the f*ck up...

the jetta 1.8T i had for a week got peak torque at 1950 RPM. the turbo has to be fully spooled up by then. anyways, it took off like a mother when you hit it. i was spinning the tires quite a bit trying to get used to it. it was a quick car, even beat the is300 from a stop because of how fast it gets it's torque and how little the difference in the two cars.

Dude... tell him he'll get more power from an electric supercharger. Buy one off Ebay, sell it to him, tell him you're a professional installer, and charge him out the ***. Maybe he'll learn his lesson.
