To those of you with the HKS exhaust..
To those of you with the HKS exhaust..
I am looking into getting it, mainly because I think that most other exhausts will scrape on my driveway (it's a damn curb!). My question is though...are there really any gains? Did you feel any increase in power? Also, does it ever scrape? Thanks

From my personal experience, the exhaust hangs a tad too low, and due to the large diameter of the canister, the exhaust tends to scrape on the driveway. This can be resolved by modifying the hanger, or purchasing a new one (I wouldn't know which one to get though). But keep in mind, my car sits real low. You can see in my gallery.
I have the HKS Hi-Power rear section. I do not have an aftermarket intake or header and I drive a AT tranny. Felt no gains what so ever, I just basically got it for the nice sound and I got it at a price that I simply couldnt pass up. My exhaust has never scrapped, and im not dropped.
I'm not sure if changing the hangers will do much because my tip is about 1/4" away from the bumper so its as bout as tight as it gets. I also have scraped once but that was coming down a driveway thats bout a 45 degree incline backwards and a 9 inch curb. My car is also dropped 1.75" so its very rare to scrape. The only gains I felt was the top-end RPM. I have AEM cai as well. Hope this helps.

if you want an exhaust that will not scrape with a lowered car, get the greddy evo exhaust. when that exhaust what built, they specially designed it to sit up high and not scratch the pavement on lowered cars.
in my opinion, the exhaust hangs pretty low compared to other systems so if you want to get an exhaust that won't easily scrape, don't get this one.
my cars not even lowered and i scraped it once going up my friend's driveway
i wasn't really going up at an angle but i didn't think that i would have to.
in terms of performance, i felt nothing. but then again, this was my first engine mod. if you already have intake and/or header then i would think you could feel something.

I was nervous about the scraping also when I was looking at exhausts. My buddy has the Greedy Evo and regrets it thats why I went with the Tanabe Super Racing Cat-Back. I love it. Nice style and great sound!!!

hmmm..with stock height u should not be scraping..i have a Neuspeed sport drop and I scrape sometimes...this exhaust wont make ur car lose any low end torque because of the piping of the axleback (2") instead of other axlebacks that have around 2.25 inch piping..
btw..i'm thinking of selling my HKS used for a year with some minor scrapes give me a reasonable price and I might sell if ur interested

I have the HKS with stock ride height, and I have never scraped.
I bought the exhaust because I was worried about scraping, and because I liked the sound of it.
I will give it two thumbs up.

gains u get from my own experience:
crisper throttle response on the higher RPM's
freeway driving 70 mph (3000 RPM) feels like theres slightly more torque
thats how I would describe the exhaust before I installed my AEM CAi

, as long as you didn't lose low end (don't think you would w/ that exhaust)
