midbass woofer instead of 6 x 9?
Hey
I was thinking of putting 2 midbass woofers to replace the 6 x 9's in the back. Would this work? the one's that I'm looking at as of now are the Image Dynamics CX64 or the CX62 (one of them's 4 ohm the other's 2 ohm). I'll be running DEI Viper components upfront powered by a DEI Viper 400.2 amp as my stage. The 2 midbass speakers have a 150wrms rating so I guess i'd buy a new amp for them. Any suggestions on this??

I would recomend midbass located up front in the car, not in the rear deck lid. Mid bass is more directional and if your into good sound reproduction you would be better off with mid bass in the doors and highs in kick pannels or something along those lines. Thou mid bass driver size in the doors could be an issue

the man isnt building a competition soundstage, he just wants a midbass increase
now by midbass, do you mean like playing full mids, or just the higher bass frequencies?
and if youre looking for just the low frequencies, i know a few very reasonably priced 6.5's that can put out some serious midbass, but, youd prolly have to do the trunk shock upgrade because they would definitely hit the bars in teh back

well yeah.. i was planning on doing that trunk shock thing.
I just want to be able to play higher bass frequencies. I have 3 10" audiobahns in the back played by a 1000watt mobile ES (xplod) amp. (i'm planning on switching those as soon as i can). But, will I even need the midbass with my subs in?

depends. i'm guessing those subs you have now are ported or bandpass, so your higher bass sounds like ish. but a sealed box gives you a more balanced response. then it depends on the sub as to how it will play higher bass frequencies.
crossover settings will be important here as well...

you would most likely need a new box. I suppose you could modify your current one. But would prolly be easier to just make a new one.
midbasses are definitely a better idea in the back than full coaxials. Pioneer even included Front Image Enhancer features on their radios (FIE) ti kill midrange frequencies to the rear speaekrs to aid the staging.
midbass speaekrs when turned down in the rear deck can also aid in raising the stage to eye level, and also its easier to fit an enclosure behind the speaker in teh rear deck than in the door to further improve midbass response.
the speakers you are lookign at id call upper midbass speakers rather than midbass speakers. if you can find speakers designed more for low frequency extension, like the 6w0, with the powerhandling you want, you might get better performance, more low frequency extension.
I definitely think you have the right idea running just mids back there with no tweeter, however.
