Ok, for christmas i got a Pioneer DVH-P5000MP. Plays cd's, dvd's, mp3, very nice. I'm pretty good with wiring stuff, i've done my whole system (amp, sub, replacing all speakers) up until now. I dont want to take it to a professional and pay $50+ to have it installed, because i know how to do everything... almost.

1. Now it says i need to hook the unit up to my parking brake.... why? is this a necessity? If so, where can i find a parking brake wire closer to the head unit?


2. Where/what do i run the orange/white wire to? It's labeled "ILL" and in the instructions says "To lighting switch terminal."


3. Red wire labeled "ACC" obviously this is what turns on the unit. Instructions say: "To electric terminal controlled by ignition switch (12 V DC) ON/OFF."


I think that might be it.... but that parking brake still gets me...

parking brake is so you cant watch movies while driving.

i cant remember whether or not you ground that wire or hook it up to a 12v+ to bypass it

well that makes perfect sense. that crossed my mind... but i was hopin pioneer wouldnt do that to me. oh well... easy to fix.


edit: but wait... cant people in the back seat watch movies while you're driving? or does this just affect the Front video input and not the rear?

affects front video, but its easier to bypass than it is to install

so i guess i could just hook this up to the power wire or acc wire, right?

No, the light green parking brake wire is hooked up into a GROUND to bypass it, I install these things for a living. Think about it, you hook it into the wire that is hooked into a pin which reads ground when the parking brake is released off of the pin.

thank you very much. i got everythingn set up right, but now i have another problem. i've hooked my amps ACC wire through the pioneer head unit like it's supposed to be, and the rca cables. but now when i switch from cd to radio, or change radio stations, or turn on the car or turn it off i get subwoofer feedback. i think thats what to call it. i get a loud couple bumps from the sub. why is this happening?

the sub bumps when the amps turn on and off... you aren't using speaker level inputs are you?

no, i'm using the pre amp out puts on the back of the cd player

the sub hits when i:

1. Turn the car on and the cd player turns on
2. Turn the car off and the cd layer turns off
3. switch from tuner to cd or visca versa
4. During that very short no-sound time when switching radio stations

these bumps have nothing to do with the cd being played or song on the radio station. they're pretty short, but kinda loud. If you're a proffesional with car audio and do a lot of installing, please help

means somethign isn't grounded right or you have a short somewhere. Check all connections and make sure they are clean and nothing is touching anything it shouldn't be.

what wire from the head unit did you hook to the amp turn on wire?

it's a little blue/white wire coming out of the head unit that had a connector, i think it was labeled "system power" in the installation guide here it says "to system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay control terminal (max. 300 mA 12 V DC)"

that would be correctly installed

there are little modules that get rid of the turn on/off pop sound, but i also saw another guy with a pioneer deck that had the same pop sound when he switched from one source to another.

im curious, maybe its the deck

try hooking up the remote wires to the cigarette lighter +

i tried that, i couldnt tell if it made it any worse, but it definitly wasnt better... i have no clue what do to.

man now i'm trying to remember if my old pioneer deck did that... it may have. i get the noise at system turn on still, that is more the amp than your HU. but i don't get it any other time...

i think i'm gonna check my amps ground wire tomorrow. thats the only thing i havent checked so far... i think. i want to know more about that module, but i dont know where to start.

i may end up taking my car to the local car audio place here if i cant fix it myself. dangit.

was it a blue wire with a white stripe or an all blue wire? If I remember right pioneer has an amp turn on AND a power antenna lead. Blue with white is power antenna, it should be connected to the amp turn on which would be all blue.

blue with a white stripe. it says in the install guide "to system control terminal of the power amp OR auto antenna relay control terminal.

see if there's a only blue wire, if so hook it up to that one.

well i didnt get around to much today, it was raining pretty hard all day. but i did discover that when i turn the volume all the way to zero it makes that noise too. so i'm guess whenever my sub/amp does not get a sound signal it does that.
