Right now I have 2 Audiobahn 8" subs in a shitty kicker enclosure that I sealed and screwed to my trunk. They're hooked up to a 400w RMS, 1000w max Sony amp. I am going to ditch the box and build fiberglass enclosures on either sides of the trunk for them, so Im going to upgrade the subs while I'm at it. I think my amp is ok for now, but the subs have to go. They kick, but they lack the really low rumble that I need with bass. So I'm in the market for 2 10" or 12" subs, and I want to hear your opinoins. I want good sound quality over sheer decibels, but they can't be too weak. They need to be able to get down low, which is about the only thing I didn't like about the Audiobahn's. I'm looking at some JL Audio subs, but I can't seem to find a website with good prices; both www.etronics.com and www.sounddomain.com don't carry JL subs. Anyways, I want some decently priced subs (max of about $100 each) that can kick, but also have good tone and sound quality.
As a side note, which of these two setups do you think I should do?
1-one sub in its own enclosure on either sides of the trunk, with the amp put somwhere out of the way
2-both subs in one enclosure on one side of the trunk with a fiberglass 'enclosure' for the amp on the other side?

i would do that, but my trunk needs to be functional. I use my car everyday to carry junk in the back, which is why my current setup is the subs pointed towards the seats, as far front in the car as possible. I think it would sound better and look better to put them in enclosures in the corners of the trunk, and I would keep a lot of space. hm...maybe I could put the amp on the inside of my trunk lid? That would be neat.
WO's are 10", right?

W0's come in 6.5,8,10,12 and 15.
The 10's are either 4 or 8ohm SVC and work in sealed inclosures of .5 -1.0 cu. ft. and the 12's work in 1.0 - 1.75 cu. ft.
So, they both will work great for what u wanna do. They are pretty loud woofers, don't let them fool u.

ok check this out; I can get a JL 15w0 for $100. Thats right. 15 inches of pure JL AUDIO bass. What do you think I should do; 2 12"s, or one 15" (maybe another later on)?
Remember w/ two 12's that you just lost half of your trunk space. Have you ever heard one 12" in the trunk.
Heres what you do. Since you already have the amp, just go around to different shops and have them throw in some boxes to see what it sounds like. Figure out what you want that way.

im going to be using a fiberglass enclosure. With 2 12's, I was probably going to put one on each side of the trunk. I talked to a friend of mine who is really into car audio, and knows a lot about it, and I told him that I could get one JL 15w0 for a little over half of what I could get 2 12's for, and he told me to go with the 15. So it's bought for $100 and about to be on its way to my door.
Right now, I have a Sony 400w rms, 1000w max amp. The JL sub is 150w RMS. Do I need to buy a new amp, or can I just turn the gain down on my current one and be fine? If at all possible, I want to keep this amp, but not if it means having a high risk of blowing my sub. My current plan on enclosures is this: You know the indentions on either side of the trunk, right? My sub is going in a custom fiberglass enclosure on the right, and Im going to make a custom enclosure for my amp on the other side; just like making a sub enclosure, except instead of a sub ring I'll have a piece of MDF to mount the amp to' and I'll make a little canal with a cover so that all the wires are hidden. This weekend I'm making a fake trunk floor out of MDF to replace the crappy hardboard one in there right now, so that will be ready. I plan to paint the enclosures red with some sort of black design on them (my color scheme is black and red).
By the way, thanks for the help everybody. Even though I went agains some of your opinons, I just needed some people other than me's viewpoints. I decided to go with one fifteen (probably another one later down the road) because I want that really low rumble that I couldnt get with my 8's, and I think I will definitely get with a 15...and it was a pretty good price (i'd say). So if you have any ideas about my enclosure idea; please contribute! Im not very creative, so this was about the only thing I could think of.
