Reset ecu = bad gas mileage
Reset ecu = bad gas mileage
I just reinstalled my cai and i dissconnected the battery while doing it. I have noticed that i hit around 180ish right at half a tank. Normally I am at over 200 220 at half a tank. I also have driven it eaiser than normal just to see what my gas mileage is? Any ideas?

That's one POV and it's true, more air alone does not = more power. More air + more fuel = more power. Theoretically. However, it could also be that the ECU could still be adjusting and you may yet see your milage improve as the ECU re-learns how to map its air/fuel ratio throughout all throttle positions. I dunno, that's just what I think. My milage was crap when I first installed my intake, but now I'm doin about the same as when I was runnin stock. The reduced milage can at this point be attributed to me revving a little more to hear the growl of the intake. I'm such a ricer. Shoot me.
from what I understand about the ECU on our cars, it automatically adjusts itself periodically. So if you install a CAI or SRI and don't reset it, it will eventually do it itself.
installing the CAI dropped my mileage, but I dont get huge mileage anyhoo since I tend to lay on it most of the time.

Vinh is right. I used to drive slow and my plugs fouled at 17K miles. As for gas mileage, you have it easy. I get 24mpg max on a good run. I'm at 200 miles and almost on empty! Don't worry, the ecu will learn on its own. Just remember the intake draws in more air and thus more fuel is needed. Intakes won't show more than 1hp gains on our cars.
i droped alot of gas mileage when i put my intake on but usually with better filter the engine doesnt have to struggle as much to get that extra power its got a free breathing filter instead of the quiet restrictive stock one. Thus the amount of air/fuel goes up but the energy goes down so after the ecu resets you should come back to normal or possibly even better depending on how you drive. but it shouldnt fluxuate much more then loosing or gaining 20 miles per tank.
no that does sound right, the engine has to struggle for the air and work harder thus taking more gas. although with this crazy computer in our cars with no fuel pressure regulator its just hard to figure out,

I actually lost 2mpg AFTER taking off my SRI and going back to stock. Doesn't seem right, but oh well.
