You must go.. UNLESS you have obligations ELSEWHERE that will conflict with your life... like if you are a full time student.. you don't have to go... if you are the bread-earner in your family.. you don'thave to go... but you MUST provide a note of proof.

You HAVE to go. This is almost like a job interview.... if you don't want to be part of the jury for the actual trial, just play biased.
ie. If the trial is for a drunk driver, just tell them that you hate all drunk drivers... your opinion is biased and they'll excuse you from the actual trial.

Just tell them you're racist, you're an alcoholic but ultra conservative, and that you worship Satan, LOL.
Nah j/p. My mom got summoned to this too. She was eliminated right away because she's all prejudiced and stuff. Like legitimately. She like, hates all people. Really. She'd probably hate you all cos you're car guys and she hates car guys. She keeps callin me "riceboy".

I think to that your employer has to let you go. Your also supposd to get some minimum pay i though too. But if you want out just find out what the defendent did and act like your against it and they get you out.
Most of the stuff these guys are saying is correct....
As a Canadian citizen you are obligated to be part of the justice system. i.e. be summoned by the courts to become part of the jury for a particular case. At this current time you are summoned as a POSSIBLE jury participant.
Like in the movies, the two sides (i.e. the lawyers, and the judge, in certain cases) will ask you questions and the sort to see if you are a good unbiased juror for the particular case at hand.
If you start saying biased things or give dirty looks, they will not make you part of the jury.
Legally your place of employment must allow you to be absent for the entire duration of the court case, which could potentially go on for months for crazy ones... So, if you really don't want to be part of it (it could get quite boring I suppose), be biased when they ask you questions.
Don't get me wrong... the ones that are months are all the high publicity ones, an example being Kobe Bryant. Usually these peanut ones would be anywhere from 1-2 days, to about 1 week max.
They will pay you a small amount, like $10, to cover costs of public transportation, and lunch. You are usually expected to be there 9-5, though things can always go overtime, etc....
And as usual, say NOTHING, before, during, or after the trial has commenced/in the middle of/ended. You will be liable for what you say, and you could be fined/sentenced/put in jail for that.... as it could end up mucking up the entire case.
Not that I have EVER gotten summoned, but this is the stuff you see on tv all the time
If anyone can clarify when a trial is considered a mis-trial, etc. that would be great, I'm actually interested
