Lightbulb instrument cluster swap?

I don't know if this is the right forum or not or if this has been asked before, I tried to search and couldn't find what I wanted, so sorry if its a repost. I have a friend who just bought a 2k3 civic coupe and I love the look of the dash/guages and all now. It is really smooth looking! I have a 2k1 EX Coupe and I wanted to know if it would be possible to swap out the instrument cluster and if so how hard would it be and what would I need to know or do in order for it to work? Thanks!

did you really try to search?

guamcivic's correct. IT IS POSSIBLE, but only to an electrical genious who works for Honda. The harnesses in '01 and '02 Civics aren't "plug&play" with the sockets on the 03 gauge clusters.

But since you wanted to know... First you'd have to learn how the cluster harnesses are set up for the '03 (i.e. You have to seperate the wires in the cable and find out what each wire stands for). Then you have to find out how the wiring in the cluster harnesses of the '01 are set up also. Now that you know the wires of the '01, you have to separate those and match the way '03 wires are set up. You'd have to find harness plugs that will fit an '03 cluster to put on your rearranged '01 cables of wires, so they will plug in an '03 cluster.

It sounds pretty long and tedious, and it is. Unless you have all the right information in front of you. The hardest thing is probably trying to separate all the wires and match them accordingly.

On ebay, there used to be 'chrome bezel rings' that are sold for our instrument clusters. But very rarely are they sold any more.

just so you see what i'm talking about, here is a picture of what harnesses are. THIS IS THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN, NOT THE GUAGE CLUSTER.

I have an idea of what harnesses are and all, I basically wanted to know if it was a simple plug and play job or if it would require rewiring. I could do the work, but basically it sounds like its not worth it. I did try to search and I really didn't find what I was looking for, sorry. Thanks for the responses.

see, thats what I wanted a 2001 EX to a 2k3 EX for a coupe, I don't know though, seems like the trouble isn't really worth it. Also wouldn't you end up with a reset odometer?

celica please keep us informed. I really would like to have an '03 cluster, just for the chrome and red rings around each pod. But I have a DX, and the only thing I'm concerned with right now is a tachometer. I'm just waiting for my car to match miles with an '02 cluster I have on stand by.

Would that be the same for a 2001 ex to a 2002 rsx-s? A wiring problem? Or is it plug and play? Thanx.

first of all. size of gauge cluster isnt same. dc5@em2 wanted to have rsx gauge cluster since he got swapped. but too much wiring was involved so he gave up.

green... that would be lots harder. It wouldn't be plug & play because the rsx is a differently designed car. For one thing, the redlines are different.

I'm not sure but I think the 2002 si cluster has greater "swap-ability" with an rsx cluster, being that they share almost identical engines.
