Rusty Bolt!!!

Hey all,

I just got my random technology cat last night, it looks really nice... I still had 2 hours of daylight so I was gunna put it on. The damn bolts on the stock cat going back the the exhaust are so rusted, I couldnt even get the right socket to fit. It looks like a 14mm is too big and a 13mm is too small, and I know when I put my catback exhaust on, it was a standard socket size, so I think the rust caused the nut to get bigger or something?? Anyways, i sprayed the hell out of it with WD-40, tried filing the rust off, and ended up just busting up my knuckles? Any ideas, cuz i really wanna put this cat on and post some pics and a review. Let me know if anyone can help, thanks!

try using visegrips and a prybar for leverage

Ok.. this is how I got it off. Spray them a couple of times with WD-40 and let it sit a few hours. Get under the car laying on your back. Put the wrench on the bolt and grab it with both hands up over your head. put your right elbow on the bend in the exhaust for leverage and pull. They pop right off.

Use a high-powered air tool with impact sockets if you have one.

Otherwise try to use a regular socket with a 1/2" drive huge breaker bar.

I did with a 3/8" drive socket wrench. If you're a whimp... I guess you're screwed... get an air wrench. To get the top one out I used a 1/4" with a 2" extension.

you best bet is to sand the rust off or continue using a filer until it fits in the 13mm socket again .. g'luck bro

I messed around with it all last weekend, tried everything I could and none of the bolts would budge, the threads are all rusted so I think I'm gunna have to cut the bolts off... this really sucks, because I waited like a month for the cat and now I gotta wait even longer....

keep in mind my car is very low.... even when i get it up on jackstands, I can barely fit under it.... I gotta find a place with a lift that I can just drive on to, like when they do an oil change....

try driving up on some 2x10's...and putting a block of wood on the jack's seat if u havnt done this already...just doing that gives me a whole lot more room underneath...lay down and use the ole foot and push as hard as u can...give it a good push...then pull it towards you and tighten it a bit...then push it again...that sometimes helps break stuff loose
