Headlights out!

Hi everyone.. I used to be a regular here back when the site was new, but haven't been around for a year or so. It's good to see how much the site has taken off...

Anyways, my problem. I left my car out in the rain yesterday, which might be related. I turn on my headlights and (I think) they went on for about half a second and then they went out. The parking lights still work, the turn indicators still work, the high beams work, but no regular headlights. I figured I blew a fuse from the wetness but I checked every fuse under the dash and they seem to all be good (even though I could not find one that protected just the headlights). Any suggestions? I have a 3,000 mile trip coming up so I could really use my headlights

Any advice appreciated, including where the fuse for the headlights is! It's not on the diagram of the panel...

Did you do anything to the bulb? 100% stock bulb? If you are using one of those ebay xenon bulbs then some are bound to burn in a couple of months.

It happened to me too. It burned out while in the rain and I had xenon bulb 85w. I swapped it back to stock bulb and its fine now. I think it has to do with the harness. IMO.

There's PIAA Super Whites in there since December 2001 that a collision shop put in.. would it be possible that both of them blew at the same time, and only on regular beam, not high? I'd hate to change them again, that's hell.

Both blowing at the same time is VERY rare. It almost never happens under normal conditions. Did you check your harness wires for split ends? You may have a short while in the rain...Other than that, you may have to swap back to stock bulb. It's not hard at all (5mins job). Just remember...don't touch the bulb with your fingers. Your body oil will make it burn out faster.

Changed back to stock, and it now works. I could see the filaments on both the PIAAs were blown for low beams. It didn't take as long as last time to change, either. I just hope that whatever blew the PIAAs doesn't do the stocks when it rains again..

Thanks for the help!
