Urethane vs. Fiberglass!!! Whats your oppinion?

Im getting ready to start working on the body of my car. Already dropped it and getting the wheels this friday hopefully. I have been looking at kits from Extreme Demensions and on ebay and I am currently in a position I would like some advice with.

The last two cars I have owned I have bought fiberglass kits for. The first one was a 97 probe and I bought the shogun kit for it, it fit like **** but I expected that because of the not so popular probe and not many people buying things like this for the cars at that time. So that experience left a bad feeling in me. I move up to a 94 civic and I went with fiberglass again, this time it was twice as thick and fit extremely good. But I was still concerned about rock chips and cracking. Both cars had to have the sides molded on because of not so good fitting sideskirts, and I dont want that any more because I want the ability of removal during winter. Basically I want to be able to reinstall the kit and take it off as I please due to weather concerns. The initial install isnt bothering me much, because Im pretty damn good at working with these things. Its just that I dont want to deal with all the hastles of fiberglass if I dont have too.

Now, here is my delema. With knowing about the fiberlass issues and all that comes with it, Im looking into the urethane kits. But what I cant understand is when I look at some of the kits and cars on this board everyones stuff seems to fit really well and as far as I know, its fiberglass. I guess you can say that my big problem is the fitment of fiberglass and also the durability of removal and reinstallation.

All of those with fiberglass kits on their 7th gen, please post up pictures of your car and tell me where you got the kit from, and if you were happy or unsatisfied with it.

All of those with urethane kits, do the same, tell me where you got it and how difficult the install was.

Finally, tell me the price, if thats cool with everyone. Or PM me the info.

I will post pics of the past 2 cars I have owned. Just to let people know what I was talking about.

Thanks for any help,

Paul

Here is the probe as it waits to be sent to california

Here is the civic before I sold it to someone local

Notice the detail (ghost flames on the probe and flames in the back of the civic) and the molded in sides? Well, the detail will still be there, I just dont want the molded in sides.

Thanks again everyone.

also, a lot of the fancier designs come only in fiberglass.

fiberglass is more likely shatter or snap when in a car accident....I know ive been in two with a fiberglass kit on....on the other hand urethane is so much more durable it can take almost anything you can throw at it or run into because if a dent occurs with urethane you can pop the dent right out. urethane is much more expensive and comes in less models of kits... the cons of urethane are when painted urethane kits look bad compared to the fiberglass ....i dont knoe why but fiberglass just looks cleaner. if your going for show and want to mold or bondo your kit on your car for a cleaner look go with the fiberglass but if your an everyday street driver go with the urethane the duribility of urethane is worth the extra money if you have it

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies. I know that fiberglass kits are alot more delicate (sp) because I have had 2 cars with fiberglass kits on them. Im just wanting to know who all has had urethane and do they like it and how bad was the fitment or was it pretty much like the factory bumpers? Cost really isnt a worry right now, because I have the cash as of today to get the kit either way. I just want to know how people who have urethane like them. And I have to disagree with the looks of the urethane vs. fiberglass on the car, it all depends on the painter and the paint used on the kits.

Thanks,

Paul

for me I hate my Front end... it looks good and all but I'm sick of dealing with fiberglass, if you're plannin on dropping your car I'd go with a urethane lip kit somethin that'll hold up if you bottom out.....

Well, I have already dropped the car 2 inches with dropzone coils. The ride is excelent and it looks great. I was worried about the whole clearance issue but I think it will be ok though. I have upgraded to the factory performance struts already and they are keeping up really good, since the factory performance springs actually drop the car the same I decided to use the honda struts, and also since I work for a dealership I can get them at a really good price.

Anyways, I think im going to go with the urethane because I like the regidity, fit and look. I met up with a few people that I know tonight and they have had exceptionally good luck with their urethane kits. Thanks for all the help.
