Question 2003 civic rattle

I have a 2003 Civic 1.4 Hatchback with less than 1500 miles on it and just recently I have been getting a rattling/vibrating sound from under the hood. It sounds like a wooden rod is being shaken against the hood. This noise only happens when I am travelling between 20-30mph. Once the car is travelling over 30mph the noise stops and it starts again when I decelerate back down towards 30mph. Also there is no noise until I reach 20mph from a standing start.

Any ideas what is causing it?

Thanx.

hmm interesting. You only have a 1.4 liter in Ireland? and its a hatchback? Can you take a picture? hehe

Have you looked to make sure everything is secure? All wires, hoses, etc.? Does it sound like it is coming from the engine or just something rattling under the hood?

Maybe the latch is hitting something. Check for any damage under the hood to see where it could be at.

Have checked everything is secure and no latch damage. The Honda service engineer hadn't a clue what it was either but, hey presto on the way home the noise stopped...

Still none the wiser as to what it was. The sound seemed like it was coming from somewhere between the dash and the engine.

Now I notice that there is a bit of a drop in engine power when I engage the A/C. Is this just more noticeable because I have a flea's fart of an engine or is there something more sinister at work?

No it is normal. the AC zaps power from the engine. Usually your lights may dim a little too. You only have a 1.4L and a small engine bay. I am assuming this is a really small Hatchback with a really small engine. Any conveinence will take power from the engine. That is why you usually lose gas milage with the AC on.
