Aftermarket Shifter w/ Stock Boot
I have an aftermarket shift **** (Sparco) and it is made to screw into a shift boot. But when you take off the stock shift ****, it snaps in and out of the boot, so once i put on the ****, it doesn't connect with the boot. Is there any way to get our boot to fit onto the **** and look normal?

I had the same problem ans here's how I fixed it.
1. Look at the position of the shift **** on the shifter and see how high you need to have the boot sitting to fit flush with the ****.
2. remove the entire center console (you can just remove the black parrts the go over the ebrake and shifter but it's just as easy to remove the whole console.
If you don't know how to do that, remove the 2 screws at the rear of the console and the 2 pop clips at the front. Pull towards the rear of the car a little and then up and out.
3. With the console removed, put the **** back on the shifter. Look at the shift boot and you will see that in the middle of that clip there is a circle that the shifter goes through. Estimate where it is that the bottom of that piece will sit (on the shifter) when the boot is pushed up flush with the ****.
4. Wrap electrical tape around the shifter at that point. Make it thick ( I believe about an 1/8 in. thick is what I did. Yes, it takes a lot of tape. Put the console back in the car but don't screw it down yet. The shift boot should sit in the raised position and not fall down, being that it is held up by the tape. Put the **** on the shifter and see if the boot sits flush with the ****. If it neds raising or lowering, remove the **** and console and try again. It shouldn't take to long to get it looking right. When finished, the **** should sit flush with the boot so that the boot has no up and down travel.
PM me with any questions that you have.

Thanks
I hate to admit this but I did this because I bought the Chrome cobra head shifter **** (earlier ricier days) from AUto Zone and had to keep the boot up. That has since been replacecd with a 2000 SI **** and the clips on it are the same as my old stock one. The tape is still there and doesn't interfere at all. And the funniest part, there is a blue SI in town riding around with that tall gay 01 shift **** in it.
I know the guy and he has no clue as to the difference although he likes the **** in my car. Doens't know that it was once in his car, or that he has my old ****. Ah the perks of working at a dealership.
Yes, I did this before he bought the car off of the lot so he's had the 01 **** since purchasing the car.

A simple way.
Get some 3M 2 sided tape (black) and place it inside the top ring of the shifter boot and most shifter ***** are tapered at the bottom and attach it using the tape. Done

For my shift ***, I went to Ace hardware and bought a 5/8th's inner diameter collar with a set screw. Then I fed the top of the boot (you have to remove the gray coller thingy for this to work) through it and positioned it where it needed to be and tightened the hell out of it. It Looks great, I'd post pics but I have no digital camera handy...
