I got a ticket for careless driving tonight, it was pretty dumb on my part. I was driving home and I got pulled over doing 51 in a 35. I was not paying close enough attention to the sides of the road and did not see him until he was behind me.
In NJ careless driving is 2 points and I can't afford for my insurance to sky rocket since im only 18.
I would like to try to plea bargain it down to another offense with no points, I don't care if I end up paying more at the time, it will save me a lot of money. Any advice to offer would be most helpful. If it helps, the officer was very kind and I was polite and respectful to him.

plea bargining is solely up to the judge... its up to his or her discretion

ask the judge/district attorney if you can take traffic school AND/OR other discipline driving classes.

ya you must ask for traffic school, then its upto the judge to decide.
