Abandoned rhd vehicle
Abandoned rhd vehicle
Ok, i am in so cal, and i have this rhd prelude that has been sitting untouched in my apartment parking lot for almost 2 months now. Driver side window is busted and laying on the floor. At first the car came in with a radio, full interior, front seats and radio and cd changer are now gone. I presume it is stolen, but i know it isnt fully registered either. The last temp permit for the car was issued for august, and according to the DMV, the registration process started in april but was never completed. The riverside DMV office said there was no other information available for the vehicle besides the start of registration, no ones name or information came up.On the temp permit, there was a plate number that i used as reference for the DMV office. The lady said i could call the police, but with the limited info, the probably wouldnt even retrieve it and i would have to call an abandoned retrieval company to get it removed. Well, what can i do?
I dont want this rhd to go to waste. How long does an abandoned vehicle take to be considered abandoned? And what can i do to be able to legally make it mine or get it to someone that can make full use of it. I know an abandoned vehicle can be sold as a lien sale or something, but i need more help. On honda-tech there are a lot of people that want to just come pick it up, but i want to know the legality of this and i dont want them to do something illegal, and if possible i would want enough compensation just to fix my dent as a finders fee...what can i do and what is legal (i dont wanna get myself into trouble now)

Not exactly sure if its the same but in AZ if the abandoned vehicle is on private property, its the property's responsibility to tow it.
Your complex should keep records of which tenants have which cars and their license plates...check with your management.
AND, call the police and give them all the reasons you think the car was stolen. They'll at least send someone out to look at it.

there was a car like this in our complex and finally the management had it towed away. i don't think you can just call dibs and take it.
ok, i found some of the civil code for it, i can conduct a lien sale for it even though i dont own the property. If everything goes as plan though, it takes like 2 months to actually be able to get the title in your name

If the police look at it they can run the VIN or lic plate (if its still there) and track down the most recent owner and last known address. If that doesnt work then you're on your way to owning it
Re: Abandoned rhd vehicle
claim it as a found item, just like you would with cash, As far as I know After 6 months and nobody claims it, if it is worth more than 500 bucks you get to keep it. (this is in B.C.) one day a pedal bike turned up in my yard and I took it to the cop shop and told them I found it in my yard, and I asked them about it. They kept it for 6 months, It's all mine now baby!! It is worth like 1200$
I bet this would work for a car too.
