Insurance and my sound system

I just got a $1000 sound system. Should I take pictures of it and tell my insurance company about it? Will I be covered if someone rips off some of my gear?

if you do, your premiums are going to go up depending on your insurance company.. not sure though.. call and ask them first but dont tell them its you..

State Farm told me that if an item is in the stock location from the factory, it will be covered.

Take pictures and have receipts. It'll cost extra (mine is like $56 a year for $1000 of coverage). Well worth it.

I've heard from people that they just needed receipts or pictures and they were covered or atleast partially..

It's not a scam. Just like if you get into an accident, your insurance premium goes up. This is how insurance companies protect themselves. Just like after an accident they consider you a bigger risk, the same way they see that your stuff has a higher chance of being stolen.

Also noteowrthy, they won't give you back your full purchase price of your system.

I meant that if the aftermarket item is installed where the stock item is, then it will be covered (i.e. aftermarket head unit where the stock head unit went).

any sound equipment in the stock location is covered without extra endorsments. Otherwise call your agent and ask about coverage for "excess sound reproducing equipment" typically you will get whatever you paid for the item if you can provide receipts. also, theft is a comprehensive claim, those are not chargeable and wont affect your premium.
