My court date is coming up real quick for drinking in public. The law is as follows

Unlawful possession or consumption

(2) No person shall have or consume liquor in any place other than,

(a) a residence;

(b) premises in respect of which a licence or permit is issued; or

(c) a private place as defined in the regulations.

Anyone got any tips on how to beat this? This was in August 2004 and my court date is April 4th 2005.

By the way the bottle of beer was empty with only foam at the time of being caught.

Any tips on how I can deal with this is welcome

Are you 21? Either way, I doubt youll have very much to deal with, you werent driving, you didnt get into a fight, you didnt litter. If youre 21, I would say a low amount of fines, over 21 a higher amount of fines. Get a good lawyer if you can afford it, and they'll get you out of it. or most anyways

in cananda, you only need to be 19 to drink.

You need to explain your story a little more on how you got caught.
Also there is a 75% chance that the cop wont show, even if he does, just talk to the crown and tell them you will plead guilty if they lower the fine ( which i'm pretty sure is like $120 )

public drinking is not a criminal offence, so just pay it and go on with your life.

a friend of mine drove to canada recently to drink at the titty bars...he turned 18 two months ago...they ID'ed him and it was all cool

Quebecs drinking age is 18 (last weekends adventure) and i believe everywhere elts is 19

alberta is also 18 but everywhere else is 19 im 20 so meh

Other than that just say you picked up the bottle as litter because you are a tree-hugger.
