Exclamation Massachusetts seeks to BAN Your Exhuast

Someone may want to Sticky this for everyone to read. Found this in Hot Compact & Imports April 2005 Issue.

Those of you who live in the state of Massachusetts need to learn who is behind and who is agianst this proposed bill (Bill H.D. 652), and you need to vote for your rights! These misinformed politicians with nothing better to do should be looked at very carefully and, if you agree, voted out of office. Protect your rights and protect your interests, and only you who are affected can make a difference - your voice will be heard.

Last year, the state of Massachusetts sought to pass a bill that would ban the sale of aftermarket exhuast systems. Hello, Massachusetts, this is 2005! Wake up and smell the flowers! Apparently those bureaucrats believe that aftermarket exhuasts produce unacceptable noise levels. As defined by last year's bill, "an exhuast system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emmited by the exhuast." Thankfully, with the help of SEMA, the bill was defeated, but those same Massachusetts politicians are planning to reintroduce a revised version of the bill. The 2004 bill has been changed to exclude "antique motor cars" in the hopes of dividing the automobile hobby and the aftermarket industry, thus making it easier to pass the bill.

Bill H.D. 652 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhuast systems are designed to enhance the performance and efficiency of engines without increasing emissions. It also does not afford law enforcement with a clear standard of enforcement, allowing police officers to make subjective judgements on whether or not a modified exhuast system is in violation. And we know what those independent judgements lead to. How many times have you guys been stopped so an interested police officer could "ear test" your car and write you a ticket. It's all revenue for these people, and we are the ones who pay. This proposal will make it difficult for hobbyist to replace factory exhuast systems with more durable, beter-performing options. So get those cards and letters going, storm the capital and do your part.
