Vehicular Manslaughter

My mom just told me about this guy she went to school with. He already had two vehicular manslaughter convictions a couple years ago for hitting two cars when he was drunk and killing the other drivers. He never went to jail for either, just heavy penalties.

Now he just got convicted for DUI and vehicular manslaughter again. He put his car into a tree...Honda CRX...his passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and somehow got impaled on the stick... Later died. He's sentenced to eight months. WTF? How does he not have a term like a billion years?

I love how fair our judicial system is. Stop picking on black kids with nice cars and start picking on guys with THREE vehicular manslaughter convictions.

that is just how things are. vh also normaly has less years then if you go out and just kill someone. also with dui many times it takes tones of times before they serve time. my gf worked at a woodworking shop where they had a work release program for criminals mostly just dui and drug charges. some times the dui people had 9 duis before they went to jail.

if you ask me the first dui any one gets they should have there licence taken away for at least 10 years plus heavy fines. driving drunk is no cool you have a drink pass the keys to many good people are lost every year to people that drink and drive.

ya I agree, drinking and driving a first offense should be extremely harsh and a second time the persons license should just be taken away.

Most the time they do take their license for atleast 1 year. I know my uncle that lives in Georgia got a DUI and it was his first time. They took his license for 5 years and fined him like 10 grand and he had to spend 6 months in jail.

I wonder what they would give him for a 2nd time.

he should have never gotten out of prison the first time...why would the let him out a 2nd time...stupid system.

I understand sometimes it might be a accident well unless u have been drinking. But if u kill someone no matter what you should rot your *** in prison.

I had a friend that was driving at night and some guy literally jumped in front of her cause he wanted to comite sucide. And they sentenced her 10 years in prison. Now that wasnt right. Since he was trying to die he had a note in his pocket and everything. I think she gets out in like 3 more years.

Every state should have the 3 strike rule IMO, but instead of keeping these bums in prison, I say EXECUTE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alcoholism Is a disease. You can't loose a job over it so I guess they feel bad and give a short sentence. It's messed up in the court system and I think the US needs to start taking firmer action.

alcoholism isnt a diease. You can stop drinking if you want to...but they dont want to.A disease u cant get rid of. Its a terrible life ending addiction. that casues not only you but everyone you have contact with pain weather you know the person or not.

Regardless of what AA says, you have a point. I have many alcoholics in my family, I donot drink myself and if I do it's usualy 1 drink a month. Most places consider it a disease, but you made an excellent point. I have never really had a good life, and I am not the one with a drinking problem, so yes it does have negative effects On other people. The laws still need to be more strict than they are now regardless.

our population is getting way way way too big, we need to start controlling it, so lets do it like they do it in china...if you steal, you get your hand cut off

if you kill, you get executed and your family pays the military for the cost of the bullet

I wonder what the penalty for DUI is...lol...tongue cut off?

it sounds brutal and unfair, and it is...but so is our system right now...it just takes us WAY longer to convict someone the bad guys always get away with enough lawyers...$$$ owns

The US has some the most laid back laws regarding OUI. Some countries will execute you on the spot. Here in Maine, if you commit vehiclar manslaughter you lose your license for life, no exceptions. Unfortunatly, license suspension or revocation does not stop people from driving. I would put money on the fact that the guy SRT mentioned was probably suspended. It happens, it sucks, and we definitly do not do enough. The moment someone is hooked for OUI around here, they get their lawyer and do all they can to plead down to DTE (driving to endanger). When I look at somones DMV reply for their license when im at work, it is very easy to see who the drunks are even if it doesnt list an OUI conviction.

In almost every part of the country a third manslaughter conviction would land you in prison for at the very least 10 years. I don't know about LA and their retarded French code system. I thought they were supposed to be more strict, but it doesn't sound like it in this case.
I've never understood LA's need to be completely different from the rest of the country - legally speaking anyway.

also in response to that post though, the guy's license was suspended as part of a plea bargain - 1 month each time. both of the first two sentences also carried "heavy" fines (I use quotes because no amount of fines he pays can bring that person back)...this is what happens when you can hire good lawyers...you can get away with a slap on the wrist for anything.

three DUI's and three vehicular manslaughters (not to mention all the reckless drivings, etc. that go along with it) result in a total of 8 months in jail, 14 months of license suspension, and a couple grand in fines. whoop de damn doo that's a harsh penalty for killing three people

I agree 100%

I've had 2 Mazda 323 GTX's in my life and both were totaled by drunk drivers, this is a RARE limited production rally car, only 1,200 were ever brought to the US and Canada.

The first wreck was a drunk guy running a stop sign in a moving van. He got out of the car and was obviously drunk. However the ****ing cops took over an hour and a half to get there leaving him plently of time to sober up. All they did was the pen test and he passed.

The second one was totaled by a guy in a truck that got into the turning lane, and tried to turn RIGHT out of the turning lane. Leaving himself perpendicular in my lane so I T-boned him. I have a deep seeded hatred for this man, even while stumbling around he tried to accuse me of driving drunk, and that it was my fault and he would sue my *** off. Now that I think about it I really shoulda got myself one of them lawyers and sued HIS *** off.

Alcoholism may be a diease, but drunk driving is NOT.

Theres no excuse for it. IMO 1 drunk driving offense should equal 5 years jail time. No license for 10 years after getting out of jail. For a second offense you can add 10 years to both these numbers. If you get caught driving without your license, because its been suspended for drunk driving, then you get 2 years in jail. This country seems to forget how dangerous these people are. And even when you see how deadly these drunks can be, we give them a slap on the wrist.

ya they should double those numbers of what Got Boost. said for getting caught first time give em 10 years in jail and 20 years without there license screw em they shouldnt be driving drunk.

Some might find it stupid but i wont drive even after just 1 drink no matter what it is. It might not impair my driving but you just shouldnt do it at all. Thats why most taxi places will give u a free ride from the bar if your drunk. Well down here they do.
