Costs involved with getting a lawyer?
Well as some of you know, I might be facing a felony charge, I wont get into it though, but today I contacted a lawyers office and set up a appointment with them for tomorrow to talk about the case, and I was wondering, I dont have really any money and can you do payment plans with lawyers, or do you usually have to pay upfront? I really want a good lawyer for this because If I do face a felony charge, I dont want to go to jail in the end, and possibly try to avoid even being charged.

I had to pay $650 to a Lawyer for his assistance to get me out of a ticket. I paid him at the time of court. I went 95 in a 55 mph Zone in Virginia. Virginia is no joke for Speeding. We ended up plea-bargaining with the prosecutor so I wouldn't have the possibility to spend time in Jail and have the Reckless Driving on my record. I ended up paying $250 and they lowered the ticket to 10-19 mph. I also had to go to a class. I am in the Defense Industry (Lockheed Martin) and having a misdemeanor on my criminal record would make it a pain in the *** to get a Clearance.
The guy right before me was arguing with the cop and judge stating he wasn’t speeding and also lied about having a clean record. He was going 90 in a 55. He got his license suspended for 3 months AND $500 fine. When I heard that I turned to my lawyer and was just happy that we had plea-bargained with the prosecutor before the court started.

Reckless driving in Virginia is a serious criminal charge with possible ramifications to one's career, security clearance, and insurance costs. Reckless driving is a Class 1 misdemeanor - in the same classification as a DWI charge.
As stated clearly in the Code of Virginia, the penalty parameters for reckless driving is up to one year in jail, and/or up to $2,500 in fines. Reckless driving also carries the possibility of a suspension of driving privileges for up to 6 months.
