Technically...you have to stop so the front of your car is still behind the stop sign or you run it. Not just stop near a stop sign.

In CA, the violation is 22450 a VC - stop at limit line, crosswalk or entrance to an intersection. So technically if the officer observed you roll thru, it's up to his discretion whether he gives you the ticket or not. You must come to a complete stop behind the limit line.

What if you stopped like 200 feet behind the line? Technically you stopped right? Therefore you can boost on past the line from that position?

i look at stop signs as a recommendation, not somethin ya have to do... kinda like speeding and all the other illegal stuff. just hit your breaks enough to make the car jerk, you're technically stopping then. the time between moving forward, and the backward jerk your momentum is totally stopped.. close enough to get by with anyway

In California, the definition of stopping is your wheels have to stop moving and your suspension has to settle. No "jerk stops", unfortunately.
