I usually see cops before they radar me. They're farily heavyset fellows--light brown colored, and their cars are have reflective strips on them. How can you miss em.

yea some police officers dont know much about cars but they sometimes dont know what u really did.

for example: its my car and a ricer next to me with his altezzas, wing, kit,muffler,etc. im going faster then the ricer by 10mph n jet off while the officer pulls over the ricer.
now lets pretend heres the converstation of ricer n officer.

officer: license, registration and proof of insurance please.
ricer: (hands them the documents) i wasnt going 80mph on 65, that was the blue nice *** 7thgen em2 (mines) that was next to me.
officer: i didnt say you was speeding, i was just gonna question you about the "altezzas".but now that u mentioned it, thats double the fun for u riceboy.

I would've been like... "I wasn't going 85mph in a 65 that must have been the other guy. I'm going slowly so that I don't spill the 4 opened bottles of vodka in the trunk and because I'm trying to get to my drug drop-off point in time so that I can pay my dealer and get a refresh of the stash under the back seat. If I don't make it in time he will kill me, so can you hurry up? Trust me I wasn't speeding though. I can't go too quickly because I can't see since the tints on the front of my windshield are too dark."

My friend has the Passport radar detector and I gotta tell you I wasn' very impressed. I've seen lots of ads by both Passport and Valentine showin that theirs is better than the other, so I'm guessin both are top tier. So I'm not a big believer in radar. Plus, don't cops just "pulse" the radar gun at the cars, so that it isn't easy to pick up on the detectors? If I were to invest in some sort of detector, I'd get that Jammer that was broadcasted on Dateline like three years ago.

Well all i know is that i got a ticket in Ohio for exhaust. I have an HKS axel back which is one of the quietest exhausts out there. He targeted me by seeing my muffler in the parking lot, and waited for me to leave. If thats not profiling because i have an import with a can, im not sure what is. Any help with ohio laws to fight this ticket would be helpful. Thanks

You also admitted that you were speeding. You're gonna get stuck with it whatever you decide to do. It's called, wrong place at wrong time.

Radar detectors suck in that usually by the time it goes off, you've already been clocked. This applied doubly true for laser detection devices. Cops lasers are infrared frequency. Because they sun blasts out so much IR band radiation, the sensitivity on laser detectors is pretty much so low that you'll not know he's there till he pings your car.

The only good a radar detector can do for you is alert you to cops that are visable, and could have clocked you, but may be outside your frontal visual range/mirrors and you didn't see them. For anything else it can *NOT* be relied on as a solid means of detecting the cops. In fact, a police scanner can do a better job than a radar detector once you learn how to listen to it.

Save your money and do something cool with your car.

If you're speeding and get caught, you were speeding at the wrong time.

hey i get hasseled all the time, 18's + tint+ system, AND I AM A COP!!, best thing you can do is keep the speed down, the truth is most cops have better things to do than go out and pull over ever modded car, in fact if you follow a car for more than a minute you will find some type of violation wether its a moving violation or registration violation. they are looking for cars like ours because they are easy targets. and in smaller towns your car might be the biggest thing he gets for the night, just keep the speed down say yes sir no sir, other than that theres not much you can do cuz in most states the mods arent legal and i def understand what you guys are saying i have been harrassed and hasseled numerous times but you gotta understand if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck it must be a duck.

i also work for the police dept and you cant detect an officer if he is using laser. Our lasers wont go off until we hit the trigger.
This is what officers look at when tagging.
1. Traffic, the pase of all the cars on the road
2. That one car that seems to be going faster
3. Use our laser.

You could be coming down the road 2 miles away and your detector wont go off. untill we tigger it and then your system will alert you.. by then we could have your ticket halfway ready for you by the time you get to where we are.

this does not go the same for radar, Radar is a constant signal that shoots out and pings back to us. so yes you can avoid with a detector.

In the state of connecticut it is illegal for the officer to use a handheld radar gun inside the car. (cancer issues)

and yes, 1mile over the limit is still speeding! that is an offense to be pulled over for. Will you get a ticket or it? maybe yes maybe no.

Do police target certain cars? thats up to the officer. Do mods you do to your car streetlegal? some yes some no.. most have labels saying "off road use only"

the police are there for Deterrent. We are there to make you slow down. we are there, in the public to make people stop illegal actions.

what we used to do at car shows is run through the lot and check plates, and illegal mods. strobs kits and different lights. If that car doesnt not turn them off by the time their first tire hits the public road. OUR strobs will come on. and we will give you an extra reward.

We know that people with moded cars have a higher tendency to speed or reckless driving.
