Got Backed Into

Ok, well I got backed into a week and a half ago approximately...the story is here, http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...readid=135970, I was just wondering what the legal aspects are on this. I've gone and got an estimate from a body shop and my boss told me that by law I'm only required to get one estimate. I called the guy that backed into me and told him the price and he said that he wanted to shop around and try to get a more reasonable estimate. That was about 3 days ago and I haven't heard from him yet. Should I just go down to the police station and file a report and go through insurance, he didn't want to go through insurance but it's almost seeming like that's the only way I'm going to get anything done. What should I do?

Narc is an unknown quantity at this point
ok, well by law if the damage (not including labour) is over $1000, you must report it by way of self reporting station. Every police station is a self reporting station. In your case, you do not need to report it.

by law both drivers must exchange all information including driver, vehicle and insurance details. that doesnt mean that you hafta go through insurance, but you hafta exchange that info by law.

consider this, the guy was totally on side by telling you what happend. exchange the info, get a new bumper from a Honda dealer and leave it at that. He could have left, but he chose to be a stand up guy, dont take advantage of that. He did the right thing, and so should you.

ok thats cool then. but be sure to get his insurance details in case he decides he doesnt wanna fork out the cash. This way if he baks out, you go after his insurance.

But of course give him the benifit of doubt. You knoe, if there were more honest folk like him out there, we wouldnt be paying as much for insurance as we do. Just thought id say that.

Any problems let me know. Im happy to help where I can.
