Here is the fix for AC when you defrost your Car

For info if you already know this please ignore
As you know in the Civic owners manual it says that your AC comes on when you defrost your front windshield and the AC light does not come on to indicate it which means that you drive around all day with the AC on which robs power and consumes more gas.. I hated the fact that you dont see the light come on and you can't turn it off so I got this from another forum so here goes.

Hey IMIS...there is "fix" for this annoyance. I don't know if it will be the same for your Accord, but, here is the way to do it in a 2001-current Civic(Canadian Acura EL):

1. Car is in off position.
2. Turn all three *****,the fan control **** the temperature control **** and the position controll **** all the way to the left (counterclockwise)
3. Press on BOTH the recirculate button and the a/c button
4. Turn the car on while holding these two buttons in...hold for about 7 seconds.
You will see the recirc light flash and then the AC light will come on thus having control of your AC now..

This proceedure has worked in my '01 Civic Ex Coupe and my new '04 Civic Si...even though the manual for my Si says that the a/c can't be turned off when it's set to the defrost mode. I know that the HVAC/Stereo controls are different and more hi-tech in the Accord so I don't know if your proceedure will be exactly the same. Try it and see if it works...if it doesn't, check w/ your dealer or Honda of Canada...someone somewhere within Honda will know the exact way to do it for an Accord. Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

A/C makes the air dry, which is better for defogging a windshield. Our cars in the US have auto turnon of ac, but the light also comes on. Doing that code makes it so you can push the button and turn in off.

WhiteHalf is an unknown quantity at this point
yeah .. plus I also hear its not good to let your A/C just sit there for 5 or 6 months not being used, seizing etc ... so turning it on to defrost your windows kinda forces it to remain active every once and a while during the winter months

He's right. Even the manual says the AC should be on once a week in winter months. Driving at a constant hi speed for 10 mins circulates the lubricating oils in the system. Now also, the compressor will not come on in extreme cold temps.
