B-Series Engine Swap
B-Series Engine Swap
I'm very new to this, so please go easy on me.
I have an '01 lx coupe, which I bought for my first car a couple years ago. If I'm not mistaken, it's the d17a1, which upon reading has a very limited aftermarket for performance unless you do forced induction, which I have absolutely no interest in doing. I was talking to a friend and he was saying to swap a b-series head onto it, and in looking for a head I found an entire b-series engine, with a b16a block and b18 p-72 head. I'm really just looking to have a little more power, and if I'm told correctly you can put a little money into it to get it into the 180-190hp range. Really just looking for a second opinion, I don't have a massive budget so a k20 swap may be a little more than I want, but I don't really know a whole lot about honda engines, so I'm really just looking for someone who does.

Re: B-Series Engine Swap
personally i would just drive the civic and enjoy it for what it is. 160hp and 110 tq gets boring pretty quick. a week after the upgrade you'll be used to it. it will feel the same to you as it does now and you'll want more power.. i finally realized i won't be happy until the car is so fast that when i press the gas i die instantly..
i wanted to stick a b16 in a 91 i had but the down time with NO car, cost of the motor, trans, ecu, mounts, axles, the wiring headache, etc etc etc.. it's just wasn't worth it. so much work to add a few HP to a 17 year old civic

Nope, different chassis, it was never designed to mount a b in there.
Plus emission regulations typically don't allow for an engine older than the car to be installed.
Plus, you'd need the trans, axles, ecu, wiring, etc, etc.
Live with the d17, or go find a wrecked rsx and buy the complete car, and then k swap it

Okay, I see where you're coming from. I'll think a while, the next 6 months or so would just be accumulating parts for it anyway, wouldn't start until the summer when I have alternative transport. Thanks for your input.
