Hey all

I got a fairly strong 2003 civic SI 2.0 DOHC.

While the little civic is quick and fun, but i think it needs more power. I was wondering about turbos and whatever else i can bolt on for thrills.

Where should i begin? The suspension has already been upgraded, car lowered and has K&N short ram air intake by the previous owner. What are the cheapest turbos i can go with that isnt ebay. What can i do to coax more hp out of this car for several thousand bucks?

Pardon me...i know this question has been asked thousands of times before.

You can get most of the kit off ebay.

for the turbocharger, wastegate, BOV you should try local car forums and craigslist.

make sure to run synthetic and look into the right spark plugs for boosting.

Most shops can tune E-manage Black, AEM FIC, and K-pro by Hondata. This forum will tell you that K-pro by hondata is the best option since they specialize in Honda after market parts. Just phone the shop and ask them if they can tune on the ecu you want to buy.

yo its a civic...im on a civic forum talking about building up a civic.... buy a faster car? i had one...3000gt vr4...and id rather play with a civic...i ask you what are you doing here?

the question stands despite the trolls.... im looking to start working on my civic. where should i start?

doing some research with the help of a tuner shop... i should go with gx3076r turbo and kit.

i need to do k pro and manifold/pipes first though.

K20A3, I think there were not much parts for that engine, unfortunately, but they respond to mods more than the D17Ax all the other here have.
Unfortunately we don't have many in here with the K-series engine to give you tips, maybe some that did swap (but they will have the other K-series, from RSX)

Put in a k20a2 head will give you about 40hp more. That's better then a turbo. A-spec suspension with type r sway bars improve handling. Hondata kpro, headers and catback make big difference as well on the k20

i did find a turbo kit minus the turbine for 4k that fits this engine. also found a turbine for the kit. i dunno...seems like the parts are there but finding someone who has done it to give tips is a different story.

Crower cams will give you a nice boost and they're cheap enough.

ok so i have been doing some thinking. at this point i am wondering if i should just do an engine/cpu/harness swap?

i have been doing some googling but it is a fairly deep subject. some say just build my current engine up, some say swap it.

anyone have any input on this? what kinda power can i make N/A with what engine vs. affordability and pricing points? also taking into consideration
of starting with an engine and building it up over time and driving in between upgrades.

im going to go with the ladder the entire base of the civic is for economy if you wanted a fast car you should have bought a sports car. im not trying to bust your ballz but come on the civic is slow as *** you knew this before you bought the car.

of coarse it is stock. what about all these monster civics you see out there all turbod out and stuff?

thing is...i want a SMALL car that i can make go real real fast. and yes it is possible......hell there is a shovit sitting at the drag tract with a super charged v8 in it that is nearly untouchable.

i want a small car with tons of power so i can get my speed on. i chose this civic because of the 2.0 dohc which is something i thought i could work with. i wasnt aware at the time but part of my choice was the cheap *** turbo kits on ebay for like 500 bucks.....but i now know that is a bad idea..

im guessing that not alot of people build up these SI models....they would rather build up older civics. i wanted to build this one up.

now with that all being said... here is an email that just hit my inbox from a tuning shop. 10k i buy and have installed a Stg.3 K24 285whp engine tuned. from there the sky is the limit. why on earth would i want to go out and buy another 3000gt vr4 and start building up that 2 ton car?

im not trying to be a jerk...im just trying to fish for info and weigh my options is all.

like said before, we have very few guys in here that owns a K-series engine, most of us are D17Ax something... We would like to have more experienced members, but we get what we can...
a lot of the responses in here were thinking about the D17xx, not your K-series (albeit the K20A3 not being the greatest of the K-series).

just try to see if someone else will chime in with experience with the K. (The D/K are quite a lot different animals...)

Ok, the engine block is the k20, the head you have is the a3, swap it for an a2 head and drop in the k20a2 camshafts.

then if you want more power build the turbo setup.
