R18 ECU swap for D17?

Would this ecu swap work? Why not if no?

Had a random thought, wondered if anyone can swap the d17 ecu for the r18's ecu. Similar engines, some differences, but... the r18 ecu can accept flash pro...

Re: R18 ECU swap for D17?

Short answer would be no IMHO.
The engines are only similar in that they are both 4 cylinder engines.
The wiring is all completely different.
Cam/crank signals are probably different,
and the PCM is programmed to meet different and newer EPA regs than older units, that means more and different emissions crap on the cars.
Does aftermarket support custom reprogramming for a stock PCM?
06 and newer use this type of PCM connection:

I'd say to just buy a programmable ECM that will fit your car. Probably much simpler.
