01 Civic LX Trans bits the dust
01 Civic LX Trans bits the dust
Got a 2001 honda civic lx with a 4 speed auto, the trans just went out on it and I can't find a replacement anywhere near Tacoma. I don't wanna spend more that $400 for it and have a friend that can swap it. But I have no clue wtf the transmission model is....at lease with my ford I know its a AOD whatever model.

It made perfect sense in MY head. LOL
If I yank 3 random bolts out of the car during a trans job and toss them on the ground, YOU ain't going to figure out where they came from by using a shop manual.

Umm, what does your shop manual say about this?
Go ahead and look it up, I'll wait.
Hint: You missed a few things.
The car has a subframe that needs to come out. The steering rack stays attached to the subframe.
You will need to rig up something to keep the engine from dangling out while the subframe and trans are out.
Why coolant? I do not drain the coolant. No need.
Why bother draining the ATF if the trans is junk? Ok, I would anyway.
Most trans failures send debris all throughout the system.
You REALLY need to be able to power flush the trans cooler inside the radiator. A factory reman trans would come with an inline filter to install in the cooler lines to protect the new trans.
Any trapped debris could come out of the cooler and ruin a fresh trans in a matter of seconds. Good luck getting that covered under warranty.
You might talk to the dealer guys about bringing in your radiator (pull it out and carry it in) and having them flush the trans cooler in it. We have a nice loud machine that uses hot fluid and pulsation and pressure to purge the cooler.
Or talk to a trans shop about flushing it out.
I'm not 100% sold on the aerosol spray cans that some people use for flushing the coolers, but it would be better than nothing.
HTH
