2004 vtec problem?

Okay so my 2004 is giving me problems. It gives me a check engine light when I drive. My friend put his computer in and looked up the error and said something about the computer. I'm guessing it's the computer for performance, when Im 100% on the gas around 5-6k rpms it kind of stops rpms are still high but it's not pulling. I have a short ram intake and jdr(cheap) headers both eBay items. I have no idea what's wrong and such I was thinking an exhaust leak from the headers. If anyone had this problem please send some feedback. Thanks

well usually any check engine light code will put the engine in safe mode so you dont blow it up.

Re: 2004 vtec problem?

Hey, sorry if i posted this in the wrong spot...never good at that...but yes I was driving today and the light went off. And also gearbox my car went back to safe mode, because the vtec will not kick in. When I'm on the highway and go pass someone around 5-6k rpms it doesn't pull, I was thinking that the computer is messed up? because my trans shifts fine. But I think the problem may be coming from my headers to the downpipe, because the head gascet they gave me didn't fix right so I put the stock and the one they gave me also on. Could that be the problem? Remove the one they gave me and use the stock one or get a custom that fix it that will fix it if my stock one don't? Thats the only thing I can really thinking of.

The codes they gave me was something about the computer and yes a O2 sensors error did come up also. So my real question is could those both head gascets make those 2 errors come up? and yes I was dumb for doing this but everyone gotta learn someway.

Re: 2004 vtec problem?

if you can get some header gasket material, make a custom one yourself. It'll be fun, and it will be dead nuts on.

If you can get the exact codes being reported up here, I might have some ideas about whats causing them. Either way, with the exact codes someone will answer you pretty quick. Ive got an 05 a2 btw. Let me know & good luck.

Re: 2004 vtec problem?

This guy has one and runs 10 pounds of boost and is a DD thinking about it now just need to do some thing about it now...As long as you keep the "eBay turbo" nice and such it will be good gotta switch the trans out for a manu? or would a trans cooler be enough? Thoughts questions? Links to any post with "Good news" about ebay turbos?

I barely understand what you write, but didn't you say your car threw a code for O2 sensors?

Re: 2004 vtec problem?

Is the exhaust or the intake a vtec accessory? You should always replace engine parts with original factory OEM parts. Do not use a vtec brand aftermarket part, always use geniune Honda parts and OEM only. The car is made from Honda, so they have the best parts. I dont know why, but my fellow friends (we're what you call old geasers) always laugh about the vtec parts when they talk about racing their chevy Nova and chevelle, and Walter with his black GTO by Pontiac. I always tell them that the civic is great on gas and the reliability is wonderful. I wouldnt trade my civic for anything. They laugh at the vtec parts and actually call them slow, so use only Honda parts for best results.
