Good news coming for engine building D17 owners

Finally!!!! After years of begging and shopping the notion around, we where able to close the deal on getting more cost effective connecting rods coming to the market. In a few weeks, you fellas can expect to see them on our site. These will be an H-Beam design made by a Carrillo company. So this should be interesting.

OOOO!!!

Can you give a ballpark on the price Paul? Within $75-100 is fine with me. That will help me make the determination to go with Y8 internals or stick with the D17s.

For boost or NA? Or does it matter?

Fantastic stuff. Between these and the LSD you guys are pursuing, I couldn't be a happier Honda owner!

For boost, and they will run around $400-475 for the set of 4!!!!!

That is atleast $200 cheaper than Crower.

Holy circus midgets, Batman! That's actually reasonable!

Will the block have to be notched like we have to with the Crowers?

Alright.

Now I'll need custom pistons instead of custom rods.

No need for either. Crower makes rods, and Wiseco makes pistons:

Hey Paul, which would be better for me.

Stg 2 cam and standalone (aem or kpro)
or
pistons/rods and up the psi but stay with the pcs

You knew this question was coming from me...

Can we use these on NA and see results like the crower rods, and if not- why?

Re: Good news coming for engine building D17 owners

Well, goal is in the ballpark of 160 for now.

For power reasons, might not need them, but once the specs get put up, would be nice to run some lighter rods if they are.

Question- can we run aftermarket pistons on our stock rods- any issues there?

So 3mm OB and small increase in suds to 10:1? I am sure we can, but it will be extra $$ and 4-6 weeks.

I'll send you an email and maybe you can propose the parts and cost. It's for a winter build so there's time.

Yes. Go Wiseco or we can get a custom one made from JE or something.

I am looking for some "stock-to-high" compression forged pistons to run around 100hp shot. Not too high compression because for now (budget) I will use the stock D17A2 cam, then upgrade to a stage-2. What compression you think will be good for it? By now I am running 60hp shot but want more.

And about the K1 Technologies rods? I can install them matching clearance with stock Honda (d17) bearings? I really don't want to take-off the entire from the car to give it to a machine shop.

Re: Good news coming for engine building D17 owners

so i take it nobody has tried to build a d17a2 with around the specs around 11.5:1 and 86mm bore. if anyone thinking i'm looking at k20a specs i don't know if the displacement will match. I think if we can get those numbers in the block without turbo we can get a better powerband. i'm am looking to try and build both a d17a2 and k20a for my ride. to see which one would pan out better in the long run. i know that everyone swears by k20a like skunk2 did the 700hp monster, but the engine we have basically can do better imo.

its physically not possibly to bore a d17 to and 86mm bore not even close. 78mm is what most sleeving companies like darton recommend at the highest to remain safe. at like 80mm im pretty sure the all the cylinders would become one... high comp would be nice but no one has done it. with a 77mm bore i think it puts us to about 1.8 liter and with a 78mm at short 1.9 liter if i remember correct.
