Re: timing on head swap?

Just set crank and head to Top Dead Center and put the belt on. There are markings on the cam and crank pulley for TDC. Turn the crank counterclockwise by hand about six times to make sure pistons don't meet valves and you're set.

You could always just mark off with a marker on the cam pulley and timing belt where to line up the belt to cam. This would be easiest and probably best for a head swap.

Re: timing on head swap?

^^^^ Yep, just be careful handling the gear and belt with your greasy mitts. Those marks are prone to being rubbed off - I know mine did. So use something thats fairly permanent like nail polish or something.

Its a lot easier to see the TDC mark on the crank pulley AFTER you remove the PS pump, Alternator, brackets and drivers side mount. You can do without removing those, but its a lot easier with them out of the way.

Re: timing on head swap?

when we did mine a while ago, they just put marks on the belt and gear and taped it all, then slid the belt off, and when ready slipped the belt back on. wrong way to do it but it worked we didnt have to set any timing. i dont recommend doing it tho.
