its hard to stay out of boost when you have it on tap lol.. if you granny drive it most and keep it in vac then you'll get close to your stock mpg. tuning plays a big role too of course, you dont want to be pig rich all over wasting fuel. At the same time, you dont want to be too lean , then you'll break something.

just dont mash the pedal. use the vac side of your boost gauge to keep tabs on pressure; sometimes youll have to climb rpms to save load on the engine. seems
backwards, but it works. I hit close to 43 mpg on the highways the other day.

it's pretty easy: stay out of boost, and youll save money on gas. Some of us dont have the will power to do that though lol..

my gas milage didn't drop that much when I had a turbo.

I went from about 32 mpg combined cty/hwy n/a to 30 mpg city/hwy combined turbo.

with my swap, I'm getting 26 mpg combined.

I'm doing better with it.
More power = less high reving, lower RPM upshifts;
higher gears = lower RPMs = more MPG

Haven't filled it enough to get a good handle on it, but its looking like about a 4 MPG gain.

I think I get better....casue full throttle stock = about half throttle turbo...there for less gas...but then again I never thought I would see the day a civic took $45 to fill up the tank! damn 93

also make sure you get it tuned real good...I had mine tuned on a mustang dyno so I could cruise the car @70mph to lean it out for highway driving.

no boost = like stock, underboost the bov will open when you let off the throttle. the BOV's job is to save the turbo from compressor surge or forcing your throttle plate into your intake manifold, lol.

Not 100% true. That is what a ported shroud is for.

To the original poster-If your concerned bout fuel economy, do not do turbo. Simple as that. Performance and fuel economy are not even supposed to be used in the same sentence except to disclose you have an 8 sec car with 4 miles/gallon fuel economy.

That is not 100% true.^
You can get excellent fuel economy with the right tuning, even with a supra.

When I had my turbo D17, I guzzled gas when I was driving hard. I was getting 20mpg or less sometimes.
