Turbo and Wastegate Question.....

Is it possible or easy enough to take the wastegate off an internally wastegated Turbo and use an external wastegate?

Also when using a Boost Controller would I have to take out the spring from the wastegate?

Sorry for the noob questions, but I dont know much about Turbo's!

not too sure about making it external, but no you do not need to take the spring out for the boost controller. You would want to leave that in, I believe. Mine is in, and i wont be taking it out.

Why switch to externally? In therory its possible dependant on what manifold you currently have and what its made of and clearance restrictions. As for the boost controler, No the wastegate spring wounldnt need removed.

well Ill be buying an SF Turbo kit from a member from the site, and if Im not mistaken the Turbo is internally wastegated, I like the look of the an external wastegate so I was thinking of getting the Dezod mani.

Im leaning towards going for show so thats the reason for the questions.

if you get the dezod mani, none of the SF kit will work. The manifolds are in different locations, so the downpipe, intercooler pipes, and intake pipe wont work. You can have the SF manifold modified to fit an external wastegate. Its pretty easy, i do it all the time.

As for the internal wastegate, you just need a blockoff plate. But with the SF kit, you would need a new downpipe (since the internal wastegate housing is part of the downpipe). But, the good thing is that all you would have to do is disconnect the pressure line to the internal wastegate, and it will never open. So voila!

If you want to bring it up to me once you get the kit installed, i can do it for you. Your only about 70-80 miles from me here. Hell, if you need the kit installed, i can do that to. Just did one about 3 weeks ago.
