Is it possible to confrim the km's on an engine????

Hey everyone... i know this is a noob question and i apoligize....

But i am considering buying an engine from someone... who "claims" the engine has only 3800km/s on it.....

He says he sold the cluster and that that all he has as proof is a pic of the cluster reading 3700km/s before the engine was taken out..

I was wondering if theres anyway to confrim the "REAL" amount of km/s on the engine.... are there any tests? anything that can be done at all?

I'd really appreciate some help, thanks in advance

what year car is it. is there any damage at all? If so, they lied. They old picture doesnt mean anything either. How long has the new cluster been in. I thought you meant the car. The engine could be for real, but you wont know. My bad

NO.

You can compression test the engine, that will show you a lot. You can do a test on the engine oil already in the engine, this will show you the contaminants that are being blown back into the oil. But there is no true test of mileage by visual inspection, short of tearing the entire engine down and rebuilding it.

Basically, get a guarantee in writing. It should at least start up and run properly. All reputable engine resalers will give you at least a start up warranty with exchange.

thanks for all your help....

a little back ground on the engine:

The person selling it took it out of his 2004 rsx type s..... theres nothing wrong with the engien so he claims... only reason he took it out was to do a swap k20a swap....

So basically he says the engine has around 3800km/s on it..... hasnt had its first oil change... hes had the car since august....

The reason why i want to confrim the mileage is because i am paying him extra because the engine is "new"... but for all i know the engine could have 30,000 km/s on it.

So i guess ill get a compression test done first.
