Life of D17 with Slug
Once u boost the vic on a d17a1, and lets say we run low boost, under 10....what would be the expected life of the engine? No internals....with internals. Thanks.

with no internals, i wouldn't run anywhere higher than 9 lbs. and even then, i wouldn't push it. try to keep it out of boost for normal driving. with internals you could run a little higher.
and to answer your question, i hear boosting cuts the engine life in half.

I've had a boosted d17a2 since december and she's taken everything i've dished out at her like a champ. 6lbs til' feb. Then 9lbs til last week. Now back to 6lbs just to stay safe. Engine still feels fine. No leaks, no serious weird noises. But i agree it possibly cuts the stock life in half. Built on the other hand....... Haha.
Your transaxle will go before the motor does. It's the weakest link in the chain.

If you're a fan of boost........boost! Worth it IMO for some around town fun
But swap if you REALLY wanna be fast. There's more potential there.

You heard wrong.
boosting only cuts ur enginelift in half if u drive excessively hard, and dont maintain it properly. if u drive it responsibly cept for race days, the engine should live near its stock life.

i've been lucky........i've been boosted for 1 yr at 9psi daily with still my stock HG.
that is extremely lucky. Yea, its definately worth it. Just pay the extra money to get tuned and run everything efficiently and you wont be spending extra cash down the road on repairs, etc.

yeah thats an old wives tale.Tuning will make or break the motors life span. Also how you drive is a big part of the life span. If you have boost and your always going into it because you like to hear the bov and whatnot then your putting unneccesary stress on the motor. I stay out of boost unless im racing.

It is pretty damn hard to keep my T25 out of boost as well. I barely tap the gas, and it will start spooling, and if I ever let off the gas, the BOV goes pretty nicely, even if I wasnt stepping on it.
I love it though, I am driving easily on my motor for the most part though.

yeah, i will eventually get a new manifold w/a t3/t4. For now Im happy as can be. And as everybody says, you can just throw a new motor in and build the blown one, or get a new one built while youre on the first motor. They are so cheap. like 2-300 bucks you can get a new one.

he said near its stock life, but if you dont take care of it. If you dont change the oil when is supposed to, check fluids, do everything needed for maintenance, and it should last just as long. BUt like he said, if you drive excessively hard, and dont maintain it, of course it will cut the life in half, as it would with a stock car. You have to maintain it.
You guys sort of agreed with each other
