Boost and A/F gauges
I was wondering if y'all knew a place to get some cheap (quality/reliable) gauges for Boost and A/F? I need to get them before friday, so any help ASAp would be great. I just dont want to spend 70-100 for each one right now. Something reliable, that will get me by til I upgrade everything. Thanks a lot for any help
and please dont do the
Pick 2:
Cheap quality reliable
It may not work for this, oh well
Gimme: Cheap, Reliable

Thanks a lot! Does anybody know of GlowShift? They seem decent enough to last a couple months. As long as its not more than .5 psi off, Ill be happy.

I cant spend 175 a piece right now. In a couple months, yes, that with a new fuel system (SLP), but for now will a 40 dollar gauge be reliable enough. I will check what boost I reach after I step on it from the TSI unit. It says max RPMs, boost, and basically whatever you need to know I guess. I just need to monitor pretty accurately for now til I can afford some better ones. Thanks a lot!

Could somebody explain narrow and wideband sensors, or the difference. With a narrowband not work, period? if not, why? thanks a lot!
I can check boost from my FMU, and some other stuff, just need to make sure while Im racing it doesnt run lean or creep on me. ya know. I need something to last me a month or two, so a narrowband would not work for me? or is it somewhat accurate but not really?
Thanks for any help. I havent learned anything about gauges, so Im sort of unsure, I know how to monitor them, just unsure of what to get. I need em by friday, so I cant delay very much ,need to order today.
Peace

It is really not accurate but it gives a VAUGE sense of where your AF is at, but you CANNOT tune from it. It's useful if you go and have your car tuned from a wideband and then rune the narrowband just to make sure it dosent start going to some weird *** numbers, but it is said that narrowbands kill your 02 sensor. Wideband essenstially reads "wider" readins, a la more accurate, while narrowband reads only narrow readings, and it can't see the broad view of things =)

I think if you are really worried and just need something quick, you should get an EGT gauge. Then when you have money, buy a wideband A/F gauge. I think EGT gauges are kind of pricey though, so maybe that's not a good solution in your case. I'm not really sure what FMU you have but why don't you trust your boost readings from it? It's too bad you couldn't just borrow a boost gauge from someone to check the FMU's accuracy in order to alleviate your doubts.

I cant see what boost I reached until after the run and I go to that setting I believe. After a run it shows max RPMs, max boost and some other stuff. I dont want to F up while Im driving hard and not be able to see it. If I wasnt going to Mexico this month, I would buy some expensive gauges. Id rather party in Spring Break right now. hehe. After that i will get some nice ones.
It sucks getting a Complete kit fuel system and all to run safe out the box. Than you have to spend another thousand or so to get gauges, pillars, clutch, tuning. Damn. I also want to have an extra 400 aside so I can get a new motor if mine blows. Thats why for a month or so I want some realiable cheap gauges.
Its the TSI FMU, BTW. I trust it pretty well, seems pretty decent. I jsut want to be able to constantly monitor if Im driving hard on the freeway for a while or something (weve been doing cruises in AZ with a bunch of hondas, and we go like 110 on the freeway for an hour or two) I need to monitor for that purpose alone, and others.
Thanks a lot people, youve been helpful

Ahhh, I see. Well.........I haven't really bargain shopped for gauges. I personally will probably be running my setup for about a month with only a boost gauge (Greddy E0-1) but I'm not going to race. If whatever narrowband A/F gauge you find happens to be close in price to an EGT gauge, I would get that instead (Remember to factor in the cost of having a bung welded if you go for an EGT).
The Apex'i Turbo Timer has what I guess is essentially a narrowband A/F readout. It's only around $100 and you get the turbo timing feature with it.
This seems like a case where a credit card would come in handy.

I wish I had credit, lack of credit denies me everywhere (about 50 places). It sucks. But last night I went to checker and bought 2 autometer gauges. a narrowband a/f, and a boost gauges. It is up to 35 psi, so if it doesnt work for lower boost the same, i will sell it. But they were like 150 and pretty nice gauges. Get them on Friday.
Thanks a lot guys.
