Where does the EGT sensor go?
where does the sensor for my EGT gauge go? i was talking to one of my friends and he said to put it on the runner for the 3rd cylinder on the turbo manifold, but my instructions for it said to install it 2" from the turbo on the downpipe. so i am kind of confused. i also saw one at the shop when i went that had his on his turbo manifold, but im not sure if that was right. i would assume that you would want it after the turbo so you know how hot the turbo is getting and therefore you would put it on the downpipe. so, does anyone know for sure where it should go?

It should be before the turbo, runner #3 since that is usually the hottest on a Honda block for accurate results. This way you can use EGT as a means for tuning, and monitoring cylinder temp which is what EGT gauges are used for. Using this info, you can decide if water cooling, alcohol, or retarded timing is necessary.
People that put them after the turbo can only monitor turbo exhaust temp, which will not tell you actual turbo temp depending on what kind of airflow you have which depends on your bumper, fans, speed, whatever else. So, this measurement really does not tell you anything useful about how your engine is running. Yes, it will get hotter if your engine is hotter, but it won't be accurate, and it won't respond fast enough to tell you that you have a problem.

the purpose of the guage is to determine exhaust temps. It doesn't matter how hot the turbo gets. The important thing is the exhaust temp which is a direct correlation on how safe your motor is running. Hotter temps generally mean that you are detonating.

You want it on the #3 runner on the manifold. If you put it on the downpipe, you'll get a little bit cooler reading. Which would be too late to tell if something ever goes wrong.
