pistons/rods a must?
hey all im looking into getting a T28 turbo kit for my 2001 LX auto. i want to make about 155whp. do u think ill need aftermarket pistons/rods? or would a thicker head gasket (to lower compression a bit) be enough? oh and if i would need it what company/companies would be good to buy pistons/rods from?

you wont need either. The stock d17 is actually fairly decent(aside from anorexic head ports). The motor can handle 7-8 psi safe daily 10-11 w/methanol injection(track use). I would suggest a B&M tranny cooler w/your auto to help keep temperatures at bay, also TCI make a upgrade kit for the auto trans, go to WWW.Nopionline.com and check it out I know they stock it(2 kits, race kit/shift kit....complete overhaul kit)...hope that helps some.

yeah im definetly getting a tranny cooler and thnx. i dont think ill need to beef it up, everyones said that if i run 6-7psi without getting on it at every light i should be fine with just the cooler. ill check it out though. thnx for the quick answer.

I wouldn't run more than 4psi with an auto. Tranny breaks while NA below 100k miles as it is. Look at all the tranny problems people have with no boost.

I dunno, my buddy is running 5 psi on his w/a tranny cooler and its got about 85k(28k being turbo'd) and its functioning fine.
Most of those problems may have derived from a recall honda had in its 01 model???

Well someone with the sf kit on an auto made 150whp with 8psi. Maybe 5 you can get away with, but not 8. Wait for the dezod kit, since it was tested on an auto.

edit:
without the transmission rebuild i mean. i dont really feel like taking it out and overhauling the transmission lol.

oh, and there shall be much tuning done, thats a must in my mind lol. ive seen cars gain large amounts of HP due to good tuning, and ive also seen cars running low boost melt pistons and the such due to bad tuning.
