Rep Power: 0 All I can say about all this is that my SF Kit made 231whp on 10psi using methanol injection. NO head work, no T/b, just stock everything with a FMU for fuel management. I have a little intercooler and my tuning isn't that great.
Catalyst, I put on a DH head and it feels like I lost 25whp. What would cause this? My narrow band O2 still shows rich. He ported the crap out of the exhaust. Would that cause a loss of power? DH-Josh sent me a cam, I/M and T/B. My shop is saying that the short runners on the I/M are only good for higher RPM and will hurt a low reving D17. I was also told that the 74mm Throtle body is bigger than the charge piping on my kit and it will not help unless I get bigger piping. The shop also questions the Cam and told me a turbo cam (overlap) is actualy not good for a D17.
Could you shed light on these problems? At this point I am ready to part out the hole car and say screw it. The only thing that work so far is your kit. Everything else has been problems. If you can help and give advise to a rooky it would be greatly apretiated.

I am using Methanol-water mix. Close to a 90-10 mix. I use a split-sec programmer to fine tune everything. Its like an emanage.

Rep Power: 302 Bout the 14.3... you can easily get that with 9-10 psi... at 7.5 I ran a 14.5, then consistant 14.6 at 95-96mph... That was with a body kit and only 2.2 60' times...

Plus the usual problem of the automatic transmissions not being able to hold the same amount of power as the manuals. Manuals also have a lot less parasitic drag on the power output to the wheels. Manual transmissions lose typically 15%, while automatics lose closer to 25%.

Rep Power: 305 I got full internals done into my engine, pistons, sleeves, head, valves rods etc, an getting a custom made turbocharged as we speak and I don't think I'll be pushing it to 14 psi or anything to that fact.
Is just too much $$$ and time to waisted at the dyno and at the garage repairing the dam thing instead of enjoing it driving.
I'll be just happy to drive my car every day for the next 5 years without any major incidents or brake downs.
I know that a drag / racing cars go thru many engines and tranies but that's what they do profesionaly, race.
Some ppl just look at performance in different ways.
Ether you build a racing car or street car.
I handed to you guys though for pushing the envelope and showing that it can be done.
Good luck

But my intentions are to build a strong motor that will last last long time under reasonable amount of boost.
I'm talking 8 to 10 psi.
No reason boosting that much or over on a stock internals.
Even under 6 psi, it will be year tops, before you end up having problems.
Our engines are not made to boost the are made for economy and relability.

Rep Power: 287 Speaking of transmissions - Has noone thought about the internals of OUR 5 speeds?? There are currently no aftermarket internals for our cars yet (differential anyone?). I wish quaiffe would make one, but hell - everyone is focused on the damn K20....

Rep Power: 274 yeah didn't someone post that the d16 tranny will bolt on to our d17's? If so then wouldn't we be able to build the d16 tranny and drop it on. It would change the gearing of the car but would this be an option?

5 spd is very nice to be able to hold each gear to the optimal shift point. This is not possible in the 4spd auto tranny.
