Custom Turbo setup--interesting

I was at a shop by my house that I have bought alot of stuff from the owner in the past. They just opened up partnered with a muffler / exhaust shop and are doing custom turbos. I asked them about the manifold they would use if they did my car. They never did one before so he said he would research what was out there. Told him there was not many choices then he told me this.
He said that on several civics and other hondas they had used the stock header or aftermarket one and just modified the flange or something at the end to attach the turbo and pipe everything back from there.

I say a pic of this on one car and it looked good. I know there is a company out there that makes remote turbos for trucks and camaros.

Basically he said it would save a schitt load of time and money by using the stock header and just modifying it.

What do you all think about that approach?

dont do it. no header is gonna be as good as any turbo manifold. its not gonna have big enough piping, the welds are gonna be worse, and your probally gonna have major clearence issues with the turbo and wastegate

Why is this? Not enough power from the T25?

What turbo are you running? I thought the T28 was good for like 300hp ?

Don't do it!!!

Alot of people are under the impression that the turbine wheel is spun by the flow of the exhaust gas, like blowing on a pinwheel. This is not 100% true, while the physical movement of exhaust gas accounts for SOME movement in the turbine wheel. The majority of the movement of the turbine wheel is from the temperature.

Thermodynamics 101 - As a hot gas enters a larger area it will expand rapidly (the hotter the faster) to fill the new large space. As the hot gas leaves the turbo manifold and enters the turbine housing it expands very quickly. This is what makes the turbine spins. Moving the turbo farther away from the engine allows the exhaust gas to cool, thus it won't expand as quickly and your turbo will spool very very slowly regardless of the size of the turbo.
