My thought is only that a car like the SRT-4, the Redline Ion, or the MazdaSpeed Miata wouldn't put up the sales numbers these corporations want if the cars were mass marketed, because at this point in time they see the "tuner" as a kid that his parents are going to buy him an xB @ 14 grand, and he's going to spend his $6 an hour paycheck on crap parts from Pep Boy's.
Look at the garbage they put on tv, "Pimp My Ride", "FunkMasterFlex", even that bullshit MTV had "I'm a Street Racer". Coprate society sees us car enthusiasts as the next quick way to make cash and will never take the risk of over producing a sports compact.
