Hey Guys, I wanted to hook up an AFR Gauge so went down to my mechanic to get it installed. As we raised the car up to tap the wire going to the O2 sensor, there was no O2 sensor. Seriously, we looked everywhere possible but its not there. I think you people have in fact two of these sensors if not one? But my car does not seem to have any.
Its a 2002 Honda Civic Sedan (Vtec). You can take a look at the pics here:
http://groups.msn.com/GTti/hondacivic2002vtec.msnw
The engine code says "D16W9" ..... and no info is available about it anywhere, I've checked like a hundred times.
I sent these pictures to SF before ordering my kit, and they said there is no difference and the kit should fit without any problems. But since it has no O2 sensors, this seems to be a different motor than D17, I really dont know ......
Now there are two questions. One, would the SF kit fit without any issues? (Experts please look at pics and give opinions).
Secondly, would I have get an O2 sensor. Drill it in the exhaust pipe and connect my AFR gauge to it? or is there any other way possible? like get a tap from some ECU wire?
Thanks!

Wow.....that is strange. Does it even have a catalytic converter? I'm curious.....They may be right by the cat if your car has one.
Actually, you know what? I remember reading in my Helm manual that some cars use an A/F ratio meter of some sort vs an O2 sensor to read the A/F ratio. All cars in the US have at least 1 O2 sensor (that is, all cars made within that last 20 years as far as I know), to read the A/F ratio. Since you are out of country, your laws regarding emissions are probably different. I'm guessing what SF said is correct.
I'll look in my manual again tonight for it. As far as installing an additonal O2 sensor, just have SF install a "boss" for it to mount to in the down-pipe.

i wouldn't doubt that something is different about the engine
US is alot more strict wit emissions and shyat
but still none the less weird??

thats normal dude, only US, Canada and Europe Civics have a second O2 sensor, i live south of the border (Mexico) and our cars don't have a second 02 sensor either, witch was a bitch cuz when i bought my race headers i had a bung and nothing to place there, and already had bought an 02 sensor....
but in other ways its and advantage...
and whe do have a cat, just no sensor on it...
HEFE helped with the install and has seen this...

And yes emission laws are pretty different here. In fact, I think there are no such laws

There is some info available here:
http://www.honda.com.pk/
Goto the civic section and then to specifications.
But I think that info is just bull$hit, maybe for some tax purposes these people are showing the D17 as a 1600 cc engine. I could be wrong though.

What would be the best place to mount in a O2 sensor?
Are there different types of sensors, if yes then which one would I need to work with the autometer AFR gauge?
Thanks!

It would be cool if we could get an ECU without the smog control stuff like you. It would save the hassle of trying to trick the computer.
Can you get an ECU for the VTEC SOHC for our cars? If so how much would it cost? Might be an alternitive to bypass the emissions.

Four wheel discs are stardard with the vtec model (since 1999). And now (in 2004) they have made it standard in the non-vtec models as well.
-your d16 is the american version of the HX with "V-Tec LEAN".
basically the reason you dont have a catalytic converter like other models is because your motor burns gas at a more lean condition,
i.e. less emissions. sorry bro bro, but that motor's
rated @ 98hp & 65 ft lbs torque at something like 6500 rpm.
-your ecu might freak if you do any mods, i have a friend that bought an HX back in '99 and right after he added an intake and exhaust, the motor bogged and kept dying because the ecu is programmed to allow only so much fuel to the injectors.
-bastard now has a 2002 Integra-S
AND FOR ALL MY PURIST, THE DC SHALL REMAIN INTEGRA!

where did you headr that??
the 2001+ HX still has a 1.7lt engine not a 1.6, and as told before, there are some countries where the cat does not have the second 02 sensor...
i for example live in Mexico and have the same type engien as the american car, just no second 02 sensor,
so please dont post if youre not absolutely sure what you're talking about...
