More logged data - timing, MAP, load

Ok, since I've bought my digimoto I've been logging a lot of data. Today I downloaded and tried another program that works with the elmscan tool - obd2crazy. Its a decent version of the logging software. The main reason I tried this was because for some reason my digimoto will not log the MAP sensor data properly.....have to contact them and see if its a bug or whatnot....

Anyhow, here are some graphs of data that was logged with the software:

Timing vs load. Data is plotted on seperate Y axis for a better comparison. As the engine load increases, timing decreases.

Timing vs MAP sensor. Data is plotted on seperate Y axis for a better comparison. As you can see from the graph, as the MAP pressure increases, the timing decreases. Almost a direct inverse relationship

MAP vs load. This is a key plot. This shows that the engine load is virtually identical to the MAP sensor.

What does this mean? It means that the ECU calculates engine load off of the MAP sensor. This has been discussed before at a few other forums, but I wanted to make everyone aware of this. When you use the E-manage, SAFC, or VAFC to adjust the MAP signal for larger injectors - you are affecting how the ECU sees load. This means that if your MAP voltage is halved (as an example), your ECU would see less load. This plays a big part in timing. As you can see from the graphs above, as the MAP pressure increases (greater load), the car decreases timing (to decrease chances of knocking).

yes that is tru but the emange will also prevent you from seeing too high of pressure, seeing that the map is not designed for pressure at all, setting the voltage limit at the max load point will not hurt performance, but will help it.

Also, the emanage has the ability to retard ignition timing. i've been wainting on my emanage and all the harnesses, they'll be here by thursday. I'm hitting a dyno up that sunday for a run untuned. then after a tuning i'll dyno again and we'll figure out the tru potential of the emanage.

Setting the voltage clamp may hurt performance if you don't tune it properly. That's why I posted these graphs for. As you can see, when the ECU sees a high load, the timing gets retarded - retarded timing doesn't help performance, which is why tuning is so important. This is even MORE important if you are boosting, since the car isn't going to adjust timing anymore because the signal is clamped.

Let us know how it goes...

I've contacted the guy from Digimoto about fixing the MAP sensor logging bug that I think exists - they are looking into it and will attempt to fix it in a week (so he claims).....the graphs from the digimoto software look much nicer. The other elmscan software packages aren't bad - considering they're freeware, but need some development.

Other thing to note is that the damn OBDII interface is freakin' slow! I sure wish that when they developed this thing they would have used a higher speed communications protocol. I'm guessing its around 9600 Bps.....

Well, the plots are not 100% correct (due to the limitations of the OBDII transfer speed, as I said above)...so there is a certain amount of error introduced. According to the Excel spreadsheet, the correlation of the TPS to Load is around .75, TPS to MAP around .68, and MAP to Load is thre lowest - around .45. I don't know if I agree - but, that's what the data says...
