Didn't want to have to do this.....
Long post-
As you guys may know I got my DH head in Jan and had it put on the end of last month. It is a great addition to my car but there is a part of the story that I have not told....
Within a week of the head going on, I was not getting vtec to engage. Took car in and vtec solenoid was dead b/c it was filled with metal shavings. Got a new one put on after the oil pan was dropped and cleaned and three oil changes were done on the car.
Same thing happened again so this time they checked the psi at the head and at the crank- crank was 60 but at head was only 12-
Now the head was going to have to be taken off, luckily when the valve cover was removed, the cam caps were loose and there was shavings there too. That made the head not have to be taken off.
Cleaned it out and now, $900 later, this price is not including the $400 I had to pay to have it installed either, I am in a bad position.
Believe me, I am NOT trying to blow up anyone's spot here, the head work is great but to add another part to the story-
Told Josh who relayed it to Dave, Dave said this is b/c I am detonating and the bearings are going, NOT that there could possibly be metal left in there. My car is running great btw.
I have not gotten very far with getting any compensation on this from them, and I understand that Josh is not the final decision-maker here but...
Any thoughts here on what I should do?
Sorry I had to post this here, wanted to settle it privately.
Melissa

Wait - if the cam caps were loose than wouldn't it be whomever's fault that installed the head? Reason I say this is because they don't have the cam installed (usually) when they PnP a head - all of the DH heads that I have seen pictures of on here don't have the cam installed when they are returned by DH. If that's the case than whomever installed it fscked up. If DH sent the head back to you with the cam installed - than they are to blame for not torquing down the brackets to the proper torque.....

ur lucky it didnt cause more damage, it might have u just dont know yet. if u have a pulley i suggest never putting that on, ur going to fry everything that needs oil in ur engine, turbo included.
DH is the most worthless company, i dont see why people continue to have faith. i didt have faith from DAY 1 and well it shows now why.
this reasoning of DH and what they told u is another play on words to make it not their fault when it truely is

If the head came that way - with the cam installed - than DH is to blame. They can't claim you were detonating, which caused the cam keeper to become loose, that's just plain BS.....

LOL... Get Prod's Lawyer's Phone #!
Just another awesome product put out by DH..
Opto is right.. If you had the cam installed by DH then DH is at fault for it not being put back together properly..
Oh also, did your cam have sharp enough lobes to cut someone with?

You have a warranty of merchantability which simply guarantees that goods sold are fit for the ordinary purpose for which the goods were sold. AKA Take them to small claims court. Whomever has the more compelling argument wins. You don't even have to prove "beyond a reasonable doubt". You can even use Prod's case as an example.
If you do sue and want more proof, have another "trade professional" take a look over the damage and have them write a report on whether or not they believe the Head was the likely cause of damage. Under the UCC, you also have a warranty of merchantibility if the good does not pass without objection in the trade.

(TRYING TO KEEP THIS ON TOPIC AND NOT ABOUT HICKMAN BASHING: TAKE NOTE OR IT WILL BE LOCKED)
C2i0v0i1C, the only correlation that I can think of is that Dave is saying "detonation" is making the crank walk on the bearings, but I have a hard time believing (sp?) it... Usually other weaker links go like a HG, piston, or a rod...
IMO, I think you have a bigger issue. Obviously the install was faulty since the cam caps are loose. This could have caused the cam to travel creating metal shavings. Or it could have been the head. If there were any shavings in the head during install, the shop should have noticed it and taken care of it. Any DECENT shop will inspect the parts given to them and make sure they are up to par (check water jackets, spring install, port work, etc...). Again, points to the install. Was it that? Who knows. Yes the head should have been clean. Is Hickman the primary person to blame here? IMO, no, the installer is.
Just my $0.02 (I'm sure someone will disagree
).....

Just my $0.02 (I'm sure someone will disagree
)..... I feel the same way. I got my Ported head from dH racing and yes there were metal shavings in my head but i called DH racing and I was told to submerge it and then spray WD40 on the springs so they don't rust. I did that and I was good to go. I was the one who installed the head and I looked at it very carefully before I put it on. I made sure there was no metal shavings in there what so ever i actually submerged it 3 times just to make sure. Im sorry to hear that this happened to you rscivic, talk to the shop who installed it and ask why the cam seals were loose.

Hi this is Melissa's husband,
just to get the story straight the head was installed by the lead tech at a local honda shop who also does engine swaps and alot of performance upgrade work. the problem that i have is that josh has been giving my wife the run around. you can't call him because he never answers the phone and his voice mail is always full. he had told her that dave would call her himself but he never has and this has been an ongoing runaround for over a month now. josh said he was willing to compensate with some free parts for the hassle we went thru but now he keeps saying he has to talk to dave. how many times can he say that? now he says he has to take care of all the other customers first before he can help us. i've seen many posts on here with similar problems with their parts. i feel that there should of been some R&D on all their parts before they sell them and ship them out. i don't think it is fair to have the people on this forum be the ginea pigs here and have their cars run into problems because of it.and for dave to say it is from detanation is B.S because that car has almost 1000 miles on it after the install and there is no more problems. i'm not saying their port work was bad because the car runs great now but a little customer care and appreciation would be nice here.
Thanks for listening
